And now, a word from our teachers across the school...
Sixth Grade
Congratulations to all of our sixth graders, who have been working hard each week to complete their i-Ready lessons in Math and ELA. Several of our Math and ELA classes have reached 100%, in completing the lessons required for each week. Please encourage your child to continue on this path. We are so proud of their hard work.
Each week we work on our "Morning Meeting" lessons. These are lessons where the students are actively engaged in learning strategies that they are able to use at school as well as at home. This week, the focus is on "Building Resilience." Please ask your child to share information with you about this week's lesson.
As a reminder, please make sure that you are charging your Chromebook, so that you can be ready to work in all of your classes.
Reading is so important. As you utilize the library to select books of your choice to read, please make sure that you are taking care of the books and that you are reading them.
Seventh Grade
In 7th grade social studies, students have been learning about map features. We have used latitude and longitude to find absolute locations and were able to track the slow progress of Hurricane Francine in the Gulf of Mexico. We have also been working with using a map scale and finding out that math is important even in social studies when determining distance on a map. In October, we will be learning about the physical and human geography of North America.
Eighth Grade
On September 17th, our 8th graders traveled to Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC. They were able to see firsthand what the college has to offer and speak to a number of businesses about the skills that are needed in today's workplace. It was very exciting for our students to go on their first college visit!
Activity Team
Coach Getty’s and Coach Love’s classes have been hard at work preparing the new school garden, thanks to the generous grant from the Clemson Extension. The students are diving into the world of gardening, learning how to set up a raised bed garden to grow their own vegetables. Throughout this process, they will gain hands-on experience in gardening essentials, from planting and tending to the crops to harvesting and preparing the food they grow. Additionally, this project will teach them about the seasonality of plants and the importance of crop rotations. This initiative spans across 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and includes the 6th-grade science classes, that are managing the worm farm to create compost. Everyone is very excited to witness the growth of the garden and the enthusiasm our students will display during the harvest.
