ADVENT
An Advent Prayer
Now the emptiness of ages
Proclaims the promised birth.
Hope to help unhappy hearts.
Love to light the earth.
And he shall be called Wonderful!
He shall be called Peace.
For to us, a Son has been given,
To us, the Lord is born.
He will bring justice and joy,
Consoling those who mourn.
And He shall be called Comforter
He shall be called Peace.
For to us, a Son has been given,
To us, a Child is born.
He will bring justice and joy
Consoling those who mourn.
And He shall be called Comforter
He shall be called Peace.
Amen
God keeps His promises! He amazes us with gifts we never could have imagined or asked for. One day, in Bethlehem, he placed himself in our hands. He was there from the beginning of the universe, who was the Word that spoke every one of us into this world, gave himself to us as a small child who could do nothing for himself.
This gift changed everything. He has opened his heart for us. He has shown us how to live according to God’s way. Let us stand in front of the manger in Bethlehem and peer down into the straw to adore our God, who has become a human child, Jesus Christ the Lord, who has come to redeem us.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parent/Guardians,
This Christmas, we give thanks for the gifts that God has granted in each of our lives. Let us be grateful for the gifts bestowed upon our school community at All Souls.
Patron Saint of the Parish and School – St. Oscar Romero
I am pleased to announce that we have an additional patron for our parish and school – St. Oscar Romero. It is appropriate that we have adopted St. Romero as our patron saint due to the social action we perform here at school, standing up for the rights of the poor. We have witnessed this through our community service and our sponsorship of the two children from Guatemala. We also assist the poor in our local community through the food appeals and the toy drives around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
St. Romero was the Bishop of El Salvador and lived from 1917 to 1980 and became a Martyr in 1980 where he was shot to death in the Cathedral in San Salvador in 1980. Some of his quotes during his lifetime centered around Liberation Theology and for Social Justice for all.
“The ones who have a voice must speak for those that are voiceless”
“Aspire not to have more, but to be more”
“We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of freedom in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest”
Report Cards
Report cards have been released today.
Principal Awards Ceremony
The principal awards ceremony will be held after the 8am Mass on Wednesday, December 8th. Wednesday, we also celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
All Souls Annual Fund
We are initiating our fourth Annual Christmas Appeal to raise funds for the All Souls Scholarship Fund. As you know All Souls prepares young children for the future to become responsible citizens and active Christians in our community. Our students live productive lives due to the excellent education they receive from the school.
With that said, we wish to elicit your financial support to assist families to send their children to school. The cost of Catholic education is becoming prohibitive for many families, and if we can offer some financial support their children could receive a quality Catholic education.
Please read our Annual Report if you have not read it yet. It will give you a glimpse of all the wonderful things that happen at the school over the past twelve months.
I hope you will be able to contribute financially to this appeal. If not, your prayers will be most appreciated. YOu can contribute by clicking here.
Book Fair
I wish to thank Miss Castro and Miss Villano for organizing the Book Fair this year and to thank everyone who supported it. The proceeds will be going back directly to the children in building up the classroom libraries.
Social Media
Do you know what your children are doing on social media? Do you know what social media platforms they are using? Social media is very popular with everyone in our society these days. In many situations, social media has taken over the face-to-face interactions we have with each other. Unfortunately, social media has become a way of hurting people and we are certainly seeing it with young people. We, as adults need to be aware of what our children are doing on social media and guide them to use it in a positive way.
Family Mass
This coming Sunday, our 5th grade students will be reading at the 10:30am Mass. We will also celebrate our second graders' right of Enrollment for their Holy Eucharist in April 2022. We encourage all our school families to join in with the Mass and celebrate as a parish and school community.
Kindergarten Open House
This coming Tuesday, December 7th, we will open our Kindergarten room to prospective parents to see our current Kindergartens in action. The open house will begin at 9 am and conclude by 11am. If you have a kindergarten age child or know of anyone who has, please invite them to the open house. Registration for Kindergarten has begun, and I would suggest registering early so that there is not a disappointment in securing a placement for the 2022-2023 school year. Priority goes to siblings of current students, followed by our preschool students and then other applications.
Basketball Season
Basketball season is underway and practices will be beginning very shortly. If students from grade 5 wish to play, please sign up immediately.
Christmas Vacation - No Extended Care
Students will be dismissed at 12:20 on Friday, December 17th for Christmas vacation. For this year, homeroom parents may prepare goodie bags as were done for Halloween which will be distributed at the end of the day to the students. Please drop the bags off at the office by 11am on the 17th.

I am happy to announce that our student council has published the 1st trimester student newsletter. Thanks to all student council members for contributing to the newsletter and to Emma Morgan as the Editor. You can view the newsletter here.
