NBJH Weekly Update 9/20/24
September 20, 2024
Principal's Message
Hi folks,
Another action-packed week here at NBJH. In the world of athletics/extracurriculars, we have hosted several soccer games, volleyball matches and cross country meets. Mother Nature has certainly blessed us with some pleasant weather for our outdoor activities!.On Wednesday more than 100 of our instrumental music students participated in a fun social event at Bowlero. What a great way to build connections for our music directors and students.
Taking a peek into the classroom, our 7th graders have been learning about events and people at the turn of the century (that's 1900, not 2000). In Science class our 8th graders are studying changes in matter. (We're getting used to the smell of a Bunsen burner!) And while our 6th graders are reading memoirs and writing narratives, they are also refining their X-Block songs and prepping for next week's trip to Camp Timber-lee.
We're excited to close out the week with our purple gear as we celebrate the conclusion of our Note Your Feelings campaign. We hope our 6th graders attending the Back to School party tonight have a blast!
Enjoy the weekend...
Scott
Shout Outs
- Shout out to our 6th grade parents who will be chaperoning tonight's Back to School Party for our 6th graders. A HUGE thank you to our organizing committee including Jaime Finn, Nicole Frain, Lesley Khan, Katie Reichart and Megan Watters!
Important News from GBN
Adult Supervision Required at Glenbrook Football Games
To help support the safety and security of athletic events held at both Glenbrook High Schools, any student who is middle school-aged or younger should be accompanied by a parent who must stay with them and be responsible for their supervision during the entire event. Students will not be allowed to enter the event unless a parent or guardian is with them.
District 225 appreciates your cooperation in maintaining a safe environment for all our guests.

- application form, including personal essay
- impromptu writing derived from a brief reading on a current global topic
- personal interview with academy faculty and students
The Academy is hosting an Open House for all interested 8th-grade students and their families.

NBJH has partnered with Six Flags in recent years as part of the Physics Day event they hold for area middle and high schools each spring. Our 8th graders have attended this event for close to 15 years, and we plan to attend again this spring. As a result, Six Flags has extended a special offer to our school community for this fall. Join us as CATCH leads a Community Conversation and Call to Action about our kids' mental health! There is lots of buzz about Jonathan Haidt's book, "The Anxious Generation," which brings the youth mental health crisis to the forefront. Haidt talks about smartphones, social media, and over-parenting, and he outlines very reasonable steps that we can take to create real change for our kids. We will talk, share our concerns, and discuss actionable next steps to reverse this youth mental health crisis. None of us can do this alone, but we CAN do this together.
