CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
On Tuesday we held our first-trimester awards assembly. The school gathered together to honor students who have demonstrated strong effort in their work, shown extraordinary compassion, or gone above and beyond in both their academics and support of the community. We also recognized those middle school students who received letter points or made Habits of Work honor roll this trimester. It is always nice to hear students cheering for each other, and to see how much everyone cares about our school!
THE WOOLWICH WORD
GOODBYE 2024!
This is the last newsletter of 2024! and there is no school next week, as we pause for winter break. We will see K-8 students back in school on Thursday, January 2nd. Pre-K students will return on Monday, January 6th.
END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONS
Students in all grades were treated to Holiday Trivia on the morning announcements, courtesy of Ms. Luchies in the Library! Each morning she asked a question highlighting trivia from well known holiday children's books. Winners with correct answers were selected at random and announced the following morning. Each winning student received a brand new BOOK! This year we had winners from each floor.
Students in Ms. Gibbs' class worked on seasonal crafts as a group. With glue and googly-eyes, how can you go wrong?! They also took some time to work on some counting, and sorting skills with a serious game of Uno.
Speaking of crafts, Third grade held their annual holiday crafternoon on Thursday. Parent (and grandparent) volunteers were invited to attend the event. They ran different stations where students could create holiday treasures for family members. We love having family in the building to help, and this is one of our favorite school traditions.
We started the school week with the annual PTA Winter Tree Lighting on Tuesday. Families gathered outside the school for cocoa, cookies, pizza, and caroling, before we lit up the tree. The tree was decorated with hand-painted ornaments that kids had created in art class. Students were allowed to find their ornaments on the tree and bring them home at the end of the event. We were also joined by special guests: Buddy the Elf and the Grinch! Buddy even had time to show some middle-schoolers how to shoot a basketball!
It has been a whirlwind month of December, and we certainly wrapped up the year in style. Even the science room skeleton, "George," was feeling festive!
We hope you have a safe and restful vacation, and that you enjoy your time together as a family. Thank you for making 2024 a fun and memorable year at Woolwich Central School!

Things to Talk About
- School Break is an excellent time to look around your house and see if you have any WCS library books to return. If so, try to put them in your student's backpack so they don't get misplaced during the shuffle of vacation!
- Remember to write your name in any new coats, hats & mittens that you may receive over vacation! Items that are labeled with either a name or initials are returned to their owners, sometimes the same day. Don't let your valuable winter-wear end up in the Lost & Found!
In accordance with School Board policy, the following promotional announcements have been included at the request of the sponsoring organization because they may be of interest to students and their families. These activities are not sponsored by the school, and inclusion of these announcements does not constitute endorsement of the organizations or activities by the school.
