Our Party Our Way - School Fundraiser
Fundraiser THANK YOU!
WOW! Thank you to all of the parents, faculty, family and friends for all of your generous support for our fall fundraiser! We raised over $23,000 and are so thankful for all of the wonderful support.
With approximately $6k of this years funds raised (along with $6k raised last year), we have enough to move forward with purchasing the climbing ROCK WALL for the gym!
The remaining $17k raised through this fundraiser, along with membership dues and dinner night income, will go towards many of the same activities and building expenses we have been so fortunate to fund in past years. That includes funding for:
• Field trips ($4k) that take learning beyond the classroom. The PTA has historically been able to provide approximately $200 per class, which is sometimes used to fund buses or subsidize the cost of field trips.
• Classroom enrichment ($6k) activities that foster creativity and deeper learning. The PTA has historically been able to provide all teachers approximately $130 per teacher, to be used on whatever they need (I.e., classroom supplies, organizational containers for the classroom, manipulative for student learning, activities for indoor recess, etc.).
• Our special Fifth Grade Celebration to Funway, ($4k) a memorable event for our graduating class! The PTA is able to fund the busses and admission to this fun amusement center for all of our fifth grade field trip/ graduate celebration. (The PTA covers the balance not raised separately through fifth grade “Bubble Gum Fridays”).
• Our brand-new birthday book vending machine, which will soon be stocked with books and will give students the opportunity to select a book on their birthday.
• Other building enrichment such as new books for the LMC, funding inspiring and educational school assemblies, movie licenses so that teachers can show movies in the school, etc.
• New mulch for the much-loved Gaga pit that our students enjoy daily.
• Teacher appreciation beverage cart throughout the year, and occasional meals for the faculty during school conferences.
• Student activities, such as Picnic in the Park, family movie night, Savvy Business Kids, Son Plus One, Sweetheart Dance, and Donuts with Grownups.
We thank you again!!
“Our Party, Our Way” Fundraiser celebration - October 23rd
Now is the fun part! On Wednesday, October 23, students will get to celebrate "Our Party, Our Way"!!
On Tuesday, students will receive a ballot to vote on how they would like to celebrate their fundraising success! Students can vote for one activity (either inflatables or field day) AND for one sweet treat (cupcakes or ice cream).
Votes will be counted to determine how the students want to celebrate "Our Party, Our Way"!!
The celebration will take place on October 23rd and exact times will be coming out soon. As long as the weather cooperates and we can hold the party outdoors, families are welcome to join us at school during their child’s allotted time. It will be an awesome event and so exciting for the students!
We encourage students to wear their favorite Peterson spirit wear or purple and gold that day! Students are welcome to go all out, including their brightest purple or gold, purple hair, fun accessories, etc. for the all school party!
Safety Concerns
Unfortunately, our community and I continue to witness unsafe driving behavior. We have drivers who are continuing to disobey the crossing guards while students are at or in the crosswalks, drivers who are making u-turns in the middle of Honey Locust, and trying to pick up students from the blacktop off of Honey Locust. Please the safety of all of our students is critically important! I continue to work with our police and district on this issue. I also highly encourage you to fill out the non-emergency form below. We expect our students to follow the expectations, I expect our families to do so too.
Student Attendance
Dear Indian Prairie Families,
We recognize that consistent student attendance is crucial for success. The learning opportunities and experiences provided at school are invaluable.
Starting on October 15, you will notice some changes when reporting your child's absence in ParentVUE. Please see below for an image of how the dropdown menu and screen will now appear in both the web version and app version.
You select a reason for the absence from the drop down menu. In the notes section you will provide additional details - when you select sick, please include the symptoms.
In accordance with Section 26-2a of the School Code, valid causes for absence include:
A. Illness, including mental or behavioral health issues;
B. Observance of a religious holiday;
C. Death in the immediate family or a family emergency;
D. Other situations beyond the control of the student, as determined by the Board of Education or nonpublic school administration;
E. Any circumstances that reasonably concern the parent regarding the mental, emotional, or physical health or safety of the student.
Parents are responsible for the daily attendance of their children; however, Illinois School Code does not grant parents the authority to excuse their children from attending classes without valid cause. Every absence is recorded as part of the student’s attendance record and counts toward chronic absenteeism.
"Chronic absence" means absences that total 10% or more of school days of the most recent academic school year, including absences with and without valid cause …”– 105 ILCS 5/26-18. Chronic absences are tracked by the state and are a part of the summative designation on our Illinois School Report Card. Several of our schools earned a reduced rating last year due to the chronic absenteeism data for their school.
Please note vacations, practices/competitions, birthday celebrations, and similar leisure activities are not considered valid causes for absences, and we discourage these types of activities during school hours.
We appreciate your commitment to ensuring that your child(ren) attends school on time every day. If your child must be absent, please continue to report that absence in ParentVue or by calling the attendance line for your school.
Sincerely,
Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.

Another Great Day in the Garden
Students have been hard at work in the garden, helping to clean out the garden beds and plant new seeds for greens, radishes, and kale. Meanwhile, the Kindergarten students had a fun time playing in the soil stations, watering the plants, and even discovering some grubs! It was a day full of hands-on learning and exploration, bringing everyone closer to nature.

Notes from the Nurse
Thank you for all the donations for the nurse's office! However, we are still in need of clothing. As you are preparing for the colder weather and find that your child has outgrown some pants we would love a donation to the office.
We could use:
- boys size pants 6, 7, 8, 10,12 and 14
- girls size pants 7, 8, and 10
Also, if your child has borrowed some clothing from the nurse's office, can you please return the washed items. Thank you so much!
In good health,
Nurse Patti
