Eye on FISD
September 13, 2024
From Dr. Gilstrap
Thank you to our Floresville ISD families and community for your patience on those first few days of school. We know it can get hectic, but your cooperation allowed for a smooth start to the school year. Please continue to communicate with teachers throughout the year to ensure your student is on the right track. Maintain a routine at home and make attendance a priority to help your child succeed at school.
There are many opportunities for families and community members to get involved in at FISD. Keep an eye out for information from each campus on events and activities. Consider attending our community meeting on Wednesday, September 25, to discuss our Master Facility Plan and help us prepare for the future. Scroll down this newsletter to sign up for this opportunity.
Security continues to be our top priority. We ask for your help to keep our schools safe. Talk to your child about safety and report any suspicious activity. If you see something, say something.
Teacher and Students of the Month
Mr. Kelly Lane, third-grade teacher, and fifth-grade students Zara Paine and Owen Cypert are the Teacher and Students of the Month for September. They set a great example at Floresville North Elementary for their dedication and good character. Read about their accomplishments here!

Community Meeting
Floresville ISD is developing a Facility Task Force to proactively address growth concerns across the district. FISD will begin a series of meetings to review the board approved Master Facility Plan, gather community input, and prioritize projects and funding options. The first of these meetings will be the evening of Wednesday, September 25. This meeting will be open to the public. If you would like to join, please RSVP here to receive more details.
Suicide Prevention Month
September is National Suicide Prevention Month – a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by suicide. It’s also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope.
Visit the Suicide Prevention Resource Center and learn the warning signs and risk factors for suicide, how to support someone at risk, and familiarize yourself with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Look who's Floresville Fab!
Mrs. Ernst was nominated by her colleague, Sarah Rethaber: "She saw a wreck happen right next to her. No one was stopping, but Mrs. Ernst did. She checked on the lady (who is a grandma to a Floresville North Elementary 2nd grade student). She stayed with them until paramedics came."
Mrs. Santiesteban was nominated by her colleague, Amy Carter: "Mrs. Santi is always cheerful and positive in all she does on a daily basis. Her passion for not only teaching our EB students, but making them comfortable and creating a warm and welcoming classroom is what has made our EB students so successful. She is always willing to go above and beyond to do whatever she can for ALL students, but especially for our EB students. She seeks them out in their classes and makes sure they are comfortable on campus, she reaches out to parents to make sure they have everything they need for school, and she doesn't stop working until all of them are taken care of. I appreciate all she does for our students, campus, and community. She is a wonderful representative of what it means to be "Floresville Fabulous."
Mrs. Barrett was nominated by her colleague, Morgan Beach: "I am a new hire, coming back to teaching after a very long time. Mrs. Barrett has been an essential and incredibly supportive mentor in this process. I truly believe I would not be as successful and emotionally ready to start this year without her help. She's an amazing teacher and person."
