First Marking Period Report Cards Available in Parent Portal Monday 11/11/24
It is our goal to provide regular feedback and continue communication throughout the school year in regards to your child's academic and social/emotional progress. However, at the end of each 10-week quarter, teachers formally give feedback to families through report cards. In Royal Oak DK-5 report cards are standards based. No letter grades are given and teachers assess students on specific standards. On Monday November 11th report cards will be available to view through Parent Portal on the Royal Oak Schools website. If you have any questions or need help accessing your Parent Portal, please contact the Oakland Schools Technology Help Desk at 248-209-2060.

iReady Testing Information
We have recently completed our fall iReady reading and math diagnostic assessments. Students K-5 take this test three times per year to enhance our understanding of them as learners and to help inform our instructional decisions. Your student's results report from fall testing will be uploaded into the MiStar Parent Portal under "Student Documents" for you to view by Friday, October 18, 2024.
Below you will find a link to a short document entitled "Understanding your Student's iReady Diagnostic Report". It includes helpful information for you as you review your child's reports.

Royal Oak Parent Advocacy Committee - November Meeting 11/19 @ 6:30 PM
The Royal Oak Parent Advocacy Committee (ROPAC) is our school district's Parent Advisory Committee - a group made up of parents/caregivers of students with IEPs or 504 Plans, those that want to learn more, and those that think their student may benefit from special education services. ROPAC sincerely welcomes any parent or caregiver with a student(s) in Royal Oak schools to join us in our mission to make this district a destination for students receiving special education services. Learn more about the ROPAC here: ROPAC Info Flyer
The PAC's November meeting will be held Tuesday, 11/19 @ 6:30 PM on Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81883355850?pwd=mlCBiLUzCpdAseU1KE6TKfzjhqHOwL.1). Professional Learning Mornings
Professional Learning Mornings or "Late Starts" are days when staff report 30 minutes earlier than normal and students report 60 minutes later. Staff have the opportunity to engage in 90 minutes of collaboration and learning. On these Wednesday mornings the first bell will ring at 9:20 a.m. with classes starting at 9:25 a.m. Upcoming Late Starts will be:
- November 13th, and 20th.
- December 11th, and 18th.
Birthday Recognition
Consistent with health and wellness goals and cognizant of various student and staff allergies, Royal Oak Elementary schools recognize student birthdays with non-food-based celebrations. We do recognize birthdays as special days and will recognize a child’s birthday with individual recognition by the classroom teacher. Each teacher will inform you of the specific classroom birthday recognition practice. The students will also have their names announced on the school broadcast and receive a birthday pencil from the office. Please do NOT send food or beverages as birthday treats.
Blessings in a Backpack:
“Blessings in a Backpack” is designed to provide students on the free and reduced lunch program with enough food for three meals daily on weekends. Administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, this program is active in Royal Oak Schools. If you agree to participate in this program during the school year, your child will receive a bag of food for the weekend. A food bag will be put in your child's locker for take-home on Fridays. The simple meals may include macaroni and cheese, beef ravioli, canned fruit, granola bars, soups, juice, and other items. Students will receive a bag every week.
If you want your child to participate in this program, complete the sign-up form with this link. Please be sure to indicate on the form if your child has any food allergies. If your child has a food allergy, you, as the parent or guardian, are responsible for checking all food labels when the food arrives home. Royal Oak School and Blessings in a Backpack will not be held accountable for accidental food allergen exposure.
Please fill out a new form for each child you want to participate. You will see a link to submit another response upon form submission.
