Drugs, Sex and Phones
Los Alamos Public Schools invites parents and caregivers of students in grades 6 - 12 to attend a Safety Briefing: Drugs, Sex and Phones Part 1: What Parents Need to Know about
Smartphones and Social Media. This event will take place on Tuesday, October 1 starting at 6 pm in the LAHS Speech Theater.
LAPS Superintendent Jennifer Guy will join representatives from the Los Alamos Police Department, LAHS and LAMS administration, and LAPS Counseling and Prevention staff to share information about concerning trends and activities that are dangerous to our youth. Attendees will leave with more awareness, and tips and strategies for talking with their children.

Homecoming 2024
Homecoming 2024 will be Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.
The Homecoming Parade will be held on Friday, September 27 at 2:30 pm. Staging will begin at 1:30 pm.Completed Homecoming Parade Applications and payments are due to the Los Alamos High School Bookkeeper by 4 pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. The fee for all float/vehicle entries is $20 and $15 for walkers. Checks may be made payable to LAPS.
The Football game will start at 7 pm Friday evening. The LAHS Hilltoppers will host Del Norte High School. Crowning of Homecoming Royalty will take place at half time.
The Homecoming "Carnival in Rio" dance will be held on Saturday from 7 pm - 10 pm for LAHS students. Homecoming Dance tickets are on sale on the HomeTown app through Monday, September 23rd. Click HERE to purchase. Cash ticket sales will be available Monday, September 16th through Thursday, September 19th during lunch in the A Wing Lobby for $25.

LAPS Food Services
Around the District
The LAHS Varsity Football team visited Aspen Elementary and gave high fives to students. Fifth graders started the D.A.R.E. program, and students in Ms. Teti's class honored September 11th with activities and lessons.
College/Military/Career Day
Not only did LAPS staff participate in College/Military/Career Day, but students around the district did as well, including students at Chamisa Elementary and Mountain Elementary.
Level Up Reading Challenge
Barranca Mesa Elementary and Piñon Elementary hosted Level Up Reading Challenge assemblies for students.
W.I.N. Time
LAHS students have W.I.N. (What I Need) time on A and B days.
Concessions Time
Members of the LAHS Boys and Girls Tennis teams took a turn working in the Sullivan Field Concessions during last Friday/s varsity football game.
Didgeridoo From Down Under
Thanks to the Barranca Mesa Elementary PTO, students were treated to an assembly featuring Didgeridoo from Down Under. The program is an interactive and educational Australia themed program designed for kids with music and character building. They use the instrument Didgeridoo as a main part of their show and get the audience involved.

Saturday School
Saturday School is open to all Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School students as an opportunity to catch up on late work, complete missed assignments, take make-up tests and receive help with homework.
All Saturday School sessions for the 2024-2025 school year will be in person in E-wing at LAHS.
Sessions run from 8:30 am - 11:30 am for 7th and 8th graders, and 8:30 am - 12:00 pm for high school students.

College Fair Field Trip
Seniors are invited to sign up to get a permission slip to ride the bus down to the RMACAC College Fair in Albuquerque, NM on September 22, 2024. The bus will leave at 10 am and return at 4:30 pm. There are 35 seats available for seniors on the bus. Use this form to sign up, and then get your permission slip from the College and Career Center. Bring a packed lunch and snacks to eat on the bus.
Permission slips must be returned by Wednesday September 18th.

NMCAC College Fair
The NMCAC (New Mexico College Access Council will host a College Fair at Los Alamos High School on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 1:45 pm - 3 pm in the gym. Over 30 representatives from colleges, technical schools and military options will in attendance.
STEM Pathway for Girls Conference
Calling all young women in grades 5-8 to ignite your passion for STEM at the upcoming STEM Pathway for Girls Conference. This day will be filled with inspiration, hands-on workshops and incredible insights from women leading the way in science, technology, engineering and math.

Attendees will have the chance to hear from our keynote speaker, an influential woman in STEM who will share her journey and valuable insights into the world of science and technology though their very own workshops.

PSAT Exams
All 9th grade students at Los Alamos High School will take the PSAT 8/9 on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
All 10th grade students and any 11th grade students who want to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Registration information for interested juniors will be available soon.
Hawk Hangout
The next Hawk Hangout will be on Thursday, September 26 from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm at Los Alamos Middle School.
Academic Excellence
National Merit Semifinalists
Congratulations to LAHS seniors Zoe Bent, Xiaran Chen, Kieran Gattiker, Linnhtet Htoon, Henry O’Neil and Zane Pedersen who have been named semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.. They are among 98 students representing schools across New Mexico, and more than 16,000 Semifinalists overall.

Tickets and Season Passes on Sale Now
Get ready to cheer for the Hawks and Hilltoppers! Tickets and season passes for home games can be purchased in advance either through the HomeTown Fan app or online through Hometown Ticketing or click the QR code. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate with a credit card. Tickets purchased in advance are not subject to an additional credit card fee; however, there is an additional fee for tickets purchased at the gate. Cash will not be accepted at the gate.
Season passes will include entry to all LAMS and LAHS regular season home games.
