Our 4th grade SOLO 2.0 students created their own “Living Wax Museum” this week. Each student researched a famous abolitionist and presented interesting facts about their historical significance. Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.

As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.

Andrew Bidwell (SHS Class of 2016), a theatre acting and directing major at Baldwin Wallace University, recently was part of a team producing a virtual Broadway musical, “Spring Awakening.” The musical was performed by students in the BW Conservatory of Music's music theatre program and the department of theatre and dance. The groundbreaking show was shot on iPhones at more than 40 locations throughout Northeast Ohio, and was profiled in American Theatre magazine and The New York Times. Mr. Curtis Washington is the Assistant Supervisor in our District’s Transportation Department. Upon retiring from the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities after 28 years, Mr. Washington drove both motor coaches for Lakefront Lines and buses for Berea City Schools for two years before arriving in our District. He has been a fantastic addition to our SCS transportation staff. Mr. Washington earned his undergraduate degree from Capital University and his graduate degree from Capella University.

“In my job responsibilities, I enjoy serving both our students and parents on a daily basis. The ability to impact lives in a positive manner is one of the best aspects of my job,” said Mr. Washington.

The annual “State of the Schools” presentation by SCS Superintendent, Dr. Cameron Ryba, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 at 6:30pm and will be livestreamed on our District website (www.strongnet.org). We encourage our community to tune in for a review of the student and teacher accomplishments from this past year and the exciting path for the future of our District.

Thanks to the USDA and Federal Meal Program, breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided at no cost to students through the end of the 2020-21 school year (5/28/21), or until available funding runs out. Last weekend, SHS sophomore Justin Wypasek set the Mustangs single game basketball scoring record with 52 points, as the varsity team defeated Open Door Christian Academy 97-61. Justin also tied the school record with nine 3-pointers on the night. Congratulations Justin on a historic night!

Strongsville City Schools is now hiring motivated, energetic, part-time professional substitute school bus drivers. This position features great pay ($16.19 per hour), flexible hours, no holidays, and is very rewarding. Requires a CDL Class B, with SP endorsement - TRAINING IS AVAILABLE!

With the abundance of emails that we all receive on a daily basis, and some being directed to spam or becoming buried in other folders in your email account, it sometimes leaves you without knowing an email was sent. One way to address this issue is to send a text that alerts an email has been sent. Although our texting option is not new for the district, families must opt in to receive our texts. Our Instructional Technology Department and Curriculum Department have partnered in the creation of the 'SCS Tech Corral.' The site includes reference guides and 'how-to' videos for a number of common programs and software our students and teachers are utilizing. This is a great resource with lots of helpful information. The Junior Browns Spring Flag Football League

The Cleveland Browns, in association with the Strongsville Football Backers, are bringing the Junior Browns Spring Flag Football League to Strongsville! The league is open to girls and boys in grades K-6, with competitive play at each grade level. Practices will be held once per week, with games on Sundays beginning in April. Great Lakes Science Center Learning Lab

Great Lakes Science Center’s new Learning Lab program supports working parents who need daytime childcare for their school-age children. The program provides a safe, supportive environment where children can do their schoolwork virtually. Many of the Science Center’s health and safety procedures for programming during the pandemic were developed for Camp Curiosity, which served more than 1,000 children this summer.
