Good afternoon Davis & Richmond families,

We hope that everyone is enjoying summer and your families are healthy and safe. The Reopen plans for D303 have been sent out and we know that as parents you have a lot of factors to consider to make a decision on the mode of learning for your child next year. We want to let you know that whatever choice you pick, whether it be remote or in-person we fully support your decision and know that you are doing what is best for you and your family. To help make your decision, please visit our D303 Reopen Schools webpage. You will see a list of Frequently Asked Questions that you can access on the District 303 Reopen School web page. Also included on the web page is a link to the 2020-2021 Student Attendance Selection Form. Please complete this form for each child who is or will be enrolled in District 303 for the upcoming school year by July 20. If you have not completed the returning student registration form, please use this link to complete it for the upcoming school year.

The State of Illinois and State Board of Education have not issued any changes in the school health requirements for the upcoming school year and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly supports the continued provision of health care for children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This care includes well-child care (school exams), preventative care, screenings and vaccinations. Thus, students entering school in D303 for the first time (early childhood, kindergarten, or first grades); students entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades; twelfth grade students requiring a meningococcal vaccine and transfer students must submit evidence of a physical examination and/or a complete record of immunizations in order to start school.

Parents/Guardians who have not already done so should reach out to their health care provider to schedule their child's mandated physical examination and immunizations. Completed exams and immunizations may be mailed to your child's school, in care of the school nurse or they may be dropped off at your child's school (please check with your student's school main office regarding office hours before dropping off forms).

District 303 has a first day exclusion policy with regard to health requirements so students who do not meet the health requirements mandated by the State of Illinois, will not be permitted to attend school until such time that they are compliant. If your child has a scheduled appointment to receive vaccines after the first day of school, a physician note indicating the date and time of your child's appointment must be submitted to the school prior to the first day.

Physical Examinations

• The completed physical examination and record of immunization form is expected at the school health office by the first day of student attendance.
• Physical examinations must be done by a licensed physician, advanced practice nurse or examining physician assistant.
• Physical examinations must be dated within twelve months prior to the first day of school. Only the State of Illinois Department of Human Services Certificate of Child Health Examination form will be accepted.
• Medical objections to any physical examination or immunization must be submitted in writing by a physician and must contain required information.
• Religious objections to any physical examination or immunization must be submitted by a parent/guardian in writing and must contain required information. Click here for the religious objection form.

Immunization Requirements

• Immunization records must show proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, polio and chicken pox.
• Early childhood students are also required to have haemophilus influenza (HIB) and pneumococcal vaccine.
• Early childhood and sixth through twelfth grades are also required to have the hepatitis B vaccine.
• Sixth through twelfth grades are required to have the Tdap vaccine.
• Sixth and twelfth grades are required to have the meningococcal vaccine.

*Please make a copy of your child's health records before releasing them to the school.

We hope you have had an opportunity to review the July 13, 2020 presentation to the School Board titled 2020-2021 Reopen School Plan. The plan requires the District to alter the kindergarten offerings for the 2020-2021 school year to be Half-Day Kindergarten only.

There will be several considerations for half-day kindergarten placement, including the need to balance class sizes in both the morning and afternoon. As part of our considerations, and to the best of our ability, we would like to consider if your family has a preference for an a.m. or p.m. class for your child(ren). Morning kindergarten will be in attendance from 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Afternoon kindergarten will be in attendance from 11:25 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. Please make your choice by Monday, July 20th. An email was sent yesterday that asked for your am /pm choice. If you missed the email you can make your choice in the link below.

We understand the availability of disinfectant wipes is scarce, and we are removing that item from our school supplies list. The district will provide sanitizing spray for classrooms. Other items on the list will remain the same. Please click here for the 20-21 School Supply list.
