The Fowler Weekly

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Good Day All,
Classrooms are buzzing with learning and connecting this week. I am so delighted to see our students hard at work, making good choices, and being great community members. The energy and vibes this first full week has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m proud to be a part of this amazing community of educators and learners. We held our first grade-level assemblies where we addressed several topics including safe language choice. Middle school is a tricky time and students are often “trying things on,” including words. Please partner with us in opening the lines of communication with your student about saying, or parroting, words/phrases to get reactions out of their peers. We want our school to be a safe, affirming place and therefore a higher level of care with word choice needs to be reinforced for our environment.
On a more serious note, most of us have seen the news regarding acts of senseless violence in schools and that is why I implore everyone to report any potential threats directly to the school, law enforcement or to the Safe Oregon reporting system. The best preventative measure is communication and awareness. Please know that we take all reports seriously as our students’ and staff safety is our highest priority.
Our goal is to have 100% of students receive five or fewer tardies each week. If 7th or 8th grade students had more than five total tardies this past week, then we gave them a warning notice on Friday. This upcoming week if 7th or 8th students have more than five tardies, we are going to follow up with consequences such as lunch detention and/or after school detention. We will continue to support our 6th grade students for the next couple of weeks before adding them into this process. Our staff is going to be consistently rewarding on time behavioral choices with tokens and praise regardless of grade level. Please feel free to look at the ParentVue attendance tab for real time information regarding your student’s punctuality and attendance habits.
Thank you all for your continued partnership.
Go Falcons!

Picture Day Volunteers still needed! We still need one to one and a half helpers. Are you:
Available all day this Tuesday, September 17, 8:00am-3:10pm?
Already “volunteer approved” with TTSD?(Not sure? Call the Main Office, (503)431-5000, we’re happy to check!

It’s time to sign up for ASA! (After School Activities)
After School Activities are a great way for our students to connect to our staff and each other. Statistics prove that adolescents are more likely to feel connected to their school and perform better academically when participating in extracurricular activities. Encourage your student to get involved!
Details: September 23 - November 21 from 3:15-4:15 p.m. Activities are held Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. There will be buses for students that would normally ride the bus after school. Get signed up today!

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your student’s PE teacher. Teachers can be located in ParentVue or the Fowler Website.
If you would like to simplify things, P.E. Uniforms are available for purchase. $20/uniform or $10/shirt and $10/shorts. Students may bring cash or check to the Main Office to make the purchase. You may also purchase them online for a nominal fee. Send the receipt with your student to take to their P.E. teacher during class.
PSO
Thank you to the PSO, Alicia Bale and all of the parents that contributed to our breakfast treats and coffee on Wednesday morning! We very much appreciate the pick me up as we get back into our routine.
HELPFUL TIDBITS
If your student comes home troubled by something that happens at school, we want you to know that there are two reporting apps available to all students at all times. If there is a situation where someone is in immediate danger, they can use the Safe Oregon reporting app. This app is connected to our staff/emergency services 24/7. If there is a concern that needs to be reported but can wait until school hours to be addressed, students can use the Student Concern Report app on their iPad. These reports are monitored by our administrators.
If you need to pick your student up early, please call the office prior to your arrival, and we will do our best to have them waiting for you.
“Prior to” can be:
Days before
The day before
The same day
Or on your way.
You are always welcome to leave the information on our 24 hour Attendance Line (503)431-5021, as we pick up those messages first thing each morning. For safety purposes, we do require that you come into the Main Office and sign your student out. We will always take students in, but want to make sure that we know who they are leaving with.
