Principal's Message:

Dear Serene Sailor Families,


Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning at our annual Veterans Day Assemblies. Ms. Buddle led the students through sweet and heartfelt songs. We were also lucky enough to have Major Hahn speak to our student body about what makes a veteran and why they choose to do what they do.


This Veterans Day, let's take a moment to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Their sacrifices have secured the freedoms we cherish and made the USA the greatest nation on Earth. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid.


You may have noticed the large, digital sign at the corner of Flintrock and Serene Hills Drive indicating that there will be road work done on Serene Hills Drive. Serene Hills Drive, between Flintrock and The Hills Drive, will be stripped by 2-3" and repaved. This should also include Serene Hills Court. Work could begin as early as today, between the hours of 8AM and 4PM, and last 2-3 days. They will do one lane at a time. Traffic will be challenging, so please plan accordingly.

This week in Second Step:

This month, our schoolwide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements and school assembly we’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

November Library Reading Challenges

November is Native American Heritage Month

Book recommendation: "The Water Lady: How Darlene Arviso Helps a Thirsty Navajo Nation" by Alice B. McGinty and Shonto Begay

This book is a children's book that tells the true story of Darlene Arviso, a Navajo woman who delivers water to families on the Navajo Nation. The story follows a young Navajo boy named Cody who wakes up thirsty and discovers that there is no water in his home. Darlene Arviso, known as the "Water Lady," drives a big yellow tanker truck to fill up with 3,000 gallons of water and then delivers it to families in need, including Cody's. The book highlights the challenges faced by many Navajo families who lack access to clean water and celebrates the selfless work of Darlene Arviso in providing this essential resource to her community. This book is available in the SHE library.

We're ready to stock the teacher's lounge again with snacks and drinks. If you are out grocery shopping this coming weekend, please consider grabbing some individually wrapped granola bars, chips, beef jerky, cookies, crackers, popcorn, sparkling water, K Cups, trail mix, pretzels, sodas, diet sodas, etc. and bring them to the front office next week. Thank you so much!

Tickets are on sale now through October 26 for our Parent's Gala and Fundraiser being held on November 16th at Flintrock Falls Clubhouse. Don't miss out on one of our favorite events of the year!

Literacy Partners Book Drive

Education Connection Literacy Partners is excited to invite the Serene Hills Community to participate in their 2024 Holiday Book Drive in partnership with Barnes & Noble at the Hill Country Galleria. Customers who wish to participate will purchase a book suitable for elementary students at our Bee Cave Galleria Barnes and Noble, pay for it at the register, and tell the cashier that the book is for Literacy Partners. The cashier will place the book in the donation box behind the register. Some of these books will be gifted to our Reading Buddies at SHE during our annual end-of-year celebration; other books will go to Reading Buddies at other elementary schools in our community.
