“I AM GRATEFUL FOR WHAT I AM AND HAVE. MY THANKSGIVING IS PERPETUAL.”
- Henry David Thoreau
Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD.
For those in the district who experienced yesterday’s lockdown, we recognize that the experience was stressful and emotionally draining. We are grateful for our incredible staff who responded quickly and cared for students. We are also appreciative of the students that quickly notified administrators of a potential threat. It was a scary and hectic two hours. The safety of our staff and students is our highest priority and we will conduct a thorough after-action examination to continue to refine our emergency operations procedures. Fortunately our schools had practiced lockdown drills this fall and for the most part everyone acted according to the lockdown guidelines. Please remember that parents should stay away from the school during an emergency situation to avoid being a distraction to law enforcement officers on scene to address the situation.
As we head into a weeklong break we would like to remind you that CUSD staff, students and their families have access to mental health resources through Care Solace. Care Solace helps individuals find mental health care providers and their Care Companion team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year to quickly connect you to carefully verified providers in your community.
You can access Care Solace in two ways:
Call (888) 515-0595 at any time. Support is available in 200+ languages. A dedicated Care Companion™ will help you every step of the way to research options, secure appointments, and follow up to make sure it is a good fit.
For an anonymous search, answer a few questions to get matched with an extensive list of care providers at www.caresolace.com/coronadousd.
Many of you are aware that, due to changes at the state level, there has been some confusion this year regarding updates to Independent Study Contracts (ISC) used when students are absent from school. We now have new guidelines for short-term (15 days or less) ISCs for students. The updated agreements reflect changes from the state in how students can receive credit and how districts can recoup some of the funding that is lost when students are absent from school for any reason. The changes to the ISC offer great benefit to families in that our students will receive assignments that keep them current with their work, as well as “credit” for their absences. Additionally our district is able to recoup funding that can be put back into ensuring a quality education for all students. The agreements detail requirements for both teachers and students and can be found under the Parent & Students tab on our website: LINKED HERE
Also this past week the governing board voted 5-0 to approve a new contract, including a 4% pay raise, with the Association of Coronado Teachers. We are grateful to have negotiations behind us as we head into the holiday season.
Last night’s board meeting was Whitney Antrim’s final board meeting as a trustee. On behalf of the district I would like to thank Whitney for her four years of service to our school community. As a CHS graduate, long standing community member, and parent of CUSD students, Whitney brought valuable insight, commitment, and a passion for service to her position. She truly embraced our Every Child, Every Day motto and we will miss her energy, and unwavering student advocacy, but wish her well in future endeavors.
Congratulations to our newly elected trustee, Captain Fitzhugh Lee and re-elected incumbent Renee Cavanaugh who will both be sworn-in on Friday, December 13th prior to the December board meeting.
Have a safe and restful Thanksgiving break!

Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $30 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
If you do not purchase the Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student’s device, the following fees will apply should damage occur:
Damage Type and Replacement Cost Plus Tax
Chromebook - Full Replacement $400
Damaged Keyboard $80
Damaged Screen $80
Damaged Motherboard $160
Damaged LCD Bezel $40
Damaged Camera $40
Lost/Damaged Charger* $22
Lost Case* $19
*Accessories are not covered by the Mobile Device Protection Plan.
