September 2024
From Inside the Hive
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We are off to a great start at Fairmont! Thank you for your help and support as our students and staff are settling into what promises to be a great year!
September will be a busy month! Next week we will have our Title I informational meetings, Fairmont''s first PTA meeting of the year, and Fairmont's Open House! Please come out on Tuesday, September 10, visit your child's classroom and teachers, and support our school! We will also have fall pictures next Wednesday, September 11, so make sure you dress for success!
In addition, on September 20, we will have our big event of the school year...FALL FESTIVAL! This year we will have a luau theme. This is the only fundraiser we have each school year and all the fun is organized by our wonderful PTA! Please come out and support our Fall Festival by donating an item to the silent auction, volunteering at a station, donating snacks, and/or helping set-up or clean-up! Students will also be bringing in coins the week of September 16 and competing against other classes to see which grade level can bring in the most money. The teachers of the winning grade level will participate in a Hawaiian relay race on the day of Fall Festival! Now won't that be fun to watch?!!
Please consider joining our PTA this school year. Information can be found below. We appreciate ALL PTA does for our school!
In closing, I want to remind you of the importance of making sure your child is at school on time every day. When students are not at school, they miss valuable instruction from their wonderful teachers. They also miss out on the fun things we have going on at school. So, please make an effort to make sure your child is at school. Thank you!
We, at Fairmont, appreciate all you do to support our wonderful school! We must work together for the success of all! Enjoy your September!

Notes from the Nurse
The first 4 weeks of school have been very busy in the Fairmont Clinic!
ALL medicine must be brought to the clinic by a parent. No medicine in backpacks! This includes cough drops, inhalers, etc!
Over the counter medicine must be brought in unopened packaging and will need a medication form filled out by a parent/guardian. All RX medication must have a medication form completed by MD.
Germs are abundant! Every year we see an increase in illness after school starts, and this August is no different. Remind your child to wash his/her hands frequently and to cover mouth/nose if they sneeze and cough.
Teachers are working hard to keep classrooms clean! Feel free to send clorox wipes and sanitizer to your child's teacher to help minimize germs. These items are not provided by the school or clinic.
Counselor Connection
September - Meet the Counselors
School Counselor: Mrs. Gibson
Welcome back Fairmont families! I am so excited to start the new school year with the best students. Your students will come visit me once a week for guidance this year. I will also be offering individual and small group counseling to students in need! This month we are focusing on several fun topics in guidance. Personal space, choices versus consequences, making and keeping friends, and growth mindset. Students will be able to participate in engaging activities to help meet their social emotional needs. Throughout the year we will be working on coping strategies and mindfulness to help students calm themselves down when needed.
Care Counselor: Patrice Best
Hello Fairmont families! Welcome back to the GREATEST place to !
This new school year has already kicked off to an amazing start!! Let me start by introducing myself, since I am a new face to our Fairmont family. My name is Patrice Best, and I am Fairmont’s new Care Counselor. I help to assist our wonderful School Counselor, Mrs. Gibson, in providing individual counseling support to our students. Throughout the school year, students can request my support if they find themselves needing an additional boost of care throughout the school day. I enjoy encouraging our students and helping them to see their own brightest potential!
As the Fairmont saying goes: “Every Child, Every Day–Make It Count!”
I look forward to seeing every student blossom into the best person they can this school year!
STEM
We are excited to introduce a new addition to our related arts curriculum this year. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). In the 30 minutes each week that I have with your student(s), we will be imagining, planning, inventing, and improving ourselves as creators! The upper grades (3-5) will also be working on improving their typing skills. We are putting an emphasis on proper technique, words per minute, and accuracy. Also, all grades will be incorporating career exploration and computer science. We have already been hard at work on our “creations” and are excited for this school year!!

Important Reminders
If your child will be absent call the office (423)434-5275 to report the absence. If we do not receive notification, you will receive an automated call informing you that your child's attendance is unverified, which results in an unexcused absence.
It is important that morning car line move quickly and efficiently to prevent unnecessary tardies. Please make sure your children are unbuckled and have their belongings ready to get out of the vehicle when our staff members open the door. Thank you!
At dismissal, you are permitted to walk up and get your child at the front of the school if you walk to the school. You may not park your car and walk up to get your child. This creates unnecessary traffic congestion and, if needed, emergency vehicles would not be able to get through to the school. You must either pick your child up in the car line or let them ride the bus. We appreciate your cooperation!
If you need to change how your child will be getting home at the end of the day call the office, (423) 434-5275 BEFORE 2:00 so we can get the message to your child's teacher. Thank you!
