Hello CMS Families,
Mountain madness
Mountain Time, our flex advisory hour classes held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, allows your students to get extra help or learn about some fun new activities. We set aside time in our Monday advisory classes to have students sign up for the week’s Mountain Time offerings.
However, we are noticing that having every student attempt to log in on Monday morning is really gumming up the system. We’d love it if parents and guardians can help support this effort at home. Ask your student about the Mountain Time classes they have signed up for, and if they haven’t signed up, ask them to show you how to do it and what classes are open to them. It’s all done from your student’s iPad. Enrollment closes at midnight the night before a class, so this can be a good after-dinner conversation.
Sweet treats
Today your students participated in an end-of-the-day Valentine’s Day social. See’s Candies in Bend helped make the day a little sweeter by donating more than 500 lollipops to the event. Thank you, See’s!
The not-so-fun news
This recent spate of snow and cold temperatures has meant that we have needed to keep students indoors at lunch rather than allowing them to stretch their legs outside. We have been allowing students to go to the gym after eating, but that is posing some problems. Also, students have been throwing food and being quite messy in the cafeteria, leaving their trash for administrators and custodians to pick up. Starting this week, we dismissing tables one at a time like they do in elementary school, only after trash has been properly disposed of. We also will reset expectations for how to safely play with basketballs and volleyballs in the gym when it’s so packed. We will re-evaluate the situation after two weeks.
Thank you,
Kristy Knoll
Assistant Principal
Life Skills book drive
Do you have any picture books, early reader chapter books or any middle school level books taking up space in your house? Our Life Skills students would love to have them! Our Life Skills teacher, Ms. Haidet, and her classroom helpers read to the Life Skills students every day, and the kids are craving new books! Send those Dr. Seuss, Mo Willems or Kate DiCamillo classics, or other family favorites, to our main office, or have your student drop them in the Lodge, aka classroom B9.
Cascade eighth-graders Samantha Ha and Maybel Watt urge you to donate books to our Life Skills classroom!
Sparrow success
In January, Cascade helped Summit High School students raise money for their Sparrow, Juliet, a toddler battling an advanced form of leukemia. The two-week penny drive ended at Cascade’s all-school dance on Jan. 24. Winning advisory classrooms enjoyed their rewards – hot cocoa and doughnuts – this past week.
All told, Cascade raised more than $2,000 for Juliet. The winning sixth grade advisory class was Mrs. Quinn’s with $494.89 raised. Mrs. Myers’s seventh graders brought in a whopping $662.16, and Ms. Butler-Kruger’s eighth-graders raised $217.52. Thank you to all who contributed spare change to this worthy cause!
Upcoming events
District Wrestling Championships at Crook County High School in Prineville. Wrestling starts Friday, Feb. 14, and continues Saturday, Feb. 15.
NO SCHOOL on Monday, in observance of Presidents Day.
Cool science
Students in Mr. Slodki's science classes on Tuesday took advantage of Bend's cold temperatures to do an experiment with soap bubbles -- blowing them up outside and watching them freeze!
Healthy relationships
Your student is learning how to build relationships with others - including friendships and, eventually, romantic partners. Talking with your student about healthy relationships can help keep them safe. Click here for tip on talking to your student about healthy and positive relationships.
📆Deadline to buy yearbooks is May 1📆
It is time to purchase your child’s 2024-25 Yearbook!
The deadline to purchase is approaching! Yearbooks must be purchased no later than May 1!!!
Yearbooks are distributed every year in June at our annual Yearbook Distribution Party. Purchasing a Yearbook is a great opportunity for students to celebrate their year at Cascade and see photos of their classmates and teachers that will last a lifetime. This year they are $25, with an option to have your child’s name engraved on the cover for an extra $2.55.
When logging in to the school district's Touchbase payment system, your username will be your student’s ID number, and the password will be your student’s last name with a capital first initial. A link to order your yearbook can be found here: https://or-bendlapine.intouchreceipting.com/.
If you miss the May 1 deadline to order, we will have a *very limited* number of books for sale -- $30 cash or check -- during the party only. These will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and we cannot guarantee enough for everyone. Save time and money by buying in advance!
