This week in our classroom, we have some exciting activities lined up that will keep our minds sharp and our spirits high! Let’s dive into what we’ve been up to and what’s coming next!
Last week
We had a fantastic time exploring our learning objectives and engaging in various activities that sparked curiosity and creativity among the students.
Next week
Phonics: We will participate in shared reading sessions where students will identify, blend, and spell words with the long "i" sound, spelled as i, ie, igh, and y. We will also learn some new high-frequency words to enhance our reading skills! 📚

Reading: We will introduce the genre of Drama! Students will learn to identify who is speaking in a drama, use illustrations to describe characters and settings, and clarify word meanings through visuals. We will wrap up our unit by discussing the concepts of past, present, and future. 🎭
Math: We are wrapping up Unit 6 and will be diving into Unit 7! This unit focuses on counting to 120 starting from any number less than 120. Your child will practice counting forward by 1s, reading and writing numbers to 120, counting by 1s and 10s, and representing quantities with written numerals. Using a hundred chart will help them build a strong understanding of 2-digit numbers, which is essential for learning about place value in the future! 🔢

Engage in discussions about the drama we read in class to enhance comprehension.
Utilize a hundred chart for math practice to reinforce counting skills.

Hello Families,
We’re thrilled to invite you to our 2nd Annual Casino Night, hosted by our amazing PTO! This exciting event is not only a chance for a fun evening but also a way to directly support Iron Horse and our incredible staff.
The funds raised will go toward staff grants, library books, an outdoor classroom, and so much more to enhance our school community. Last year’s event was an absolute blast, and we’d love for you to join us again this year.

February 13th: Valentine's Day Celebration - We are excited to celebrate Valentine's Day. Although there won't be an official party, I have planned some fun Valentine's-themed academic activities in the classroom. To make the exchange of valentines smooth and enjoyable, we suggest that each child brings 20 blank valentines with their name on them. This way, they can easily share them with any classmate. Additionally, please have your child bring a decorated bag or box to collect their valentines. I am looking forward to seeing their creative designs!
***Please keep in mind that we have students with nut and milk allergies, so we kindly ask you to avoid including any treats containing these ingredients.
