I can not believe this summer is flying by so fast. It was a pleasure meeting many of you in mid July for our parent information night. If you were not able to attend, I have linked the presentation in the body of the newsletter below.
We have been hard at work with the remote virtual program to make sure we have a great opening for students on August 21st. All of the teaching staff has been hired. I have been given approval to hire an administrative secretary, so I am in the process of that.
Please review this newsletter in full as there is a lot of information pertaining to first day of school, material pick up, office hours, bell schedule, etc.
I am excited for the year ahead as we work towards aspiring all students, staff, parents and community to great new successes, respecting everyone and uniting together to be a great community.
Multiple Emails about newsletter
I apologize in advance for the possible numerous emails about this newsletter. FCPS has switched to a new communication system and the kinks are still being worked out. I just want to make sure you get all the information.

New Phone Number
The MS Remote Virtual Program has a new phone number. The phone number is 227-203-2980.
In the meantime until I have an administrative secretary hired, please call 227-203-2990 to reach me directly.
Use the main number ending in 2980 to access teacher numbers.
If you receive a phone call from a teacher, do not hit call back, as this will call central office. There are no direct phone numbers to teachers this year. You will need to call the number above, and I will have to forward your call directly to the staff member.

Schedules
Student Schedules go live on August 8th. Please keep in mind we do not offer every elective and due to the size of the MS RVP staff, elective options for students may have been limited, therefore there were no choices.
Material Pick Up
We will be holding a material pick up from 9-11 and 1-3pm at Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School.
Students will receive a chromebook if they do not already have one issued to them. They will also receive their schedule, textbooks for certain courses and supplies for other classes.
Back to School Night
On August 19th at 5:30pm, we will be holding our virtual back to school night. Mr. Hoover-Beet will be joined by his staff for introductions and to review information about RVP, including what will be happening on the first day, schedules, etc. Link will come out in a School Messenger Message closer to the date as a reminder.
Administrative Intern
For this upcoming year, Ms. Jackson is completing her administrative internship. From time to time she may be helping me out with correspondance in the event I am out or in meetings. She may join me for meetings with your permission as she learns the role of an administrator. I believe in getting back to parents and students in a timely fashion. Her expertise in the MS program has been extremely valuable as I have transitioned into this role.
Admin Office Hours
We will be hosting the following virtual office hours for parents and students in preparation for school:
Tuesday August 20th from 9am to 10am and 2pm to 3pm.
Wednesday August 22nd from 7:00-7:45am, 10:45-11:50am, 12:45-1:45pm.

Ms. Jackson will be available to assist with answering questions and making sure students are set for the day or the next day.
Communication
FCPS has transitioned to using one communication platform. Text messaging via SchoolMessenger launched on Monday, July 29. Upon launch, all individuals in our system who have provided their cell phone number received a text alert. All users who have provided a cell phone number will be automatically enrolled and must actively choose to opt out, a step we discourage in our central messaging.
Through this communication platform I will be sending text messages and email messages.
Bell Schedule
What To Do On The First Day of School?
We just received word that student passwords are being reset on the first day of school. Please have students log on early to make sure everything works and they can reset their passwords.
At 7:55am, Mr. Hoover-Beet will be broadcasting live the morning announcements. Students can find the link to the morning announcements in Schoology. In Schoology, click on Groups, then RVP Student HUB (24-25). The link will be posted there. Mr. Hoover-Beet starts sharply at 7:55am.
Afterwards, students will report to their first period class. On their hand printed schedule that you will receive at material pick up and in Schoology, each course lists a period. Students find that course, click on the course and then click on the Google Meet Link. (See image below for example)
Teacher Office Hours
From August 21 through August 28th, teachers will be holding office hours during Power Blocks before our normal PowerBlock tutoring schedule starts. This will give students ample time to meet with their teachers and ask any questions pertaining to the courses as needed. It will also give teachers some extra time to get to know students and help those new to the program and how it works.
Dynamic Dialogues with Derek
Each month, Derek (Program Administrator) would like to have dynamic dialogues with parents of RVP students about whats happening in the program, discuss upcoming events, and answer parent questions and solicit feedback.
The first Dynamic Dialogue with Derek will take place on August 28th at 9:30am. Would love to have you join. Here is the link to the event: meet.google.com/ngs-zvmo-ctj

State Testing Schedule
This year, we will be conducting state testing as a group and not going to students home school to be tested. More details will come out in the future, but here are the dates.
MISA (Science: 8th grade only)
March 6 & 7 (morning)
MCAP (ELA & Math: all grade levels)
March 5, 7, 8, & 9 (Please note that it will not occur on the 6th)
MCAP (History: 8th grade only)
May 12 & 13th
All testing will occur in Walkersville at the LLC across from Walkersville Middle School
