The Latest & Greatest News for Churchill Families
Celebrating Black History Month
Notes from the Churchill Playbook
Recently, the board approved plans for our schools to transition to our hybrid learning plan starting on Thursday, February 25th. We are excited to welcome students onsite and are taking steps to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. Please review the bulletin for more details on what that means for your child. Please know that this information will be sent out again and in different ways so we are all prepared for this next change.
Phasing-In
- Starting THURSDAY, 2/25 Churchill will begin our new hybrid learning schedule.
- On 2/25 and 2/26, all 3rd grade students whose families selected in-person will report onsite according to our hybrid schedule.
- On 2/25 and 2/26, all new 4th and 5th grade students whose families selected in-person will report onsite according to our hybrid schedule.
- On 2/25 and 2/26, all other students not mentioned above will follow their in-person or fully remote schedule from home.
- On MONDAY, 3/1 we will have all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students whose families selected in-person onsite.
Rosters and Class Sizes
- Churchill rosters and in-person and fully remote designations have been finalized with minimal changes to homeroom teachers.
- Our class sizes will allow for us to physically distance and follow health and safety protocols at all times.
- At this time, requests to switch to hybrid will be documented on our waiting list and reviewed at a future date. We will do our best to accommodate all requested changes.
Master/Daily Schedule
- Our master schedule prioritizes content and considers the needs of the whole child.
- The master schedule is a "big picture" overview of the two "schools" we are operating.
- More details about your child's daily schedule will be communicated by the school and your child's teacher. A student-friendly version of the schedule will be shared via email, posted on our teacher sites, and via Teams.
- Please view the video message for more information about our schedule.
In-Person Considerations
- Students must have with them when they arrive their self-certification form. Please make this process part of your daily morning routine. When students do not have this form they miss valuable instructional time and our staff miss time with their students.
- Students may arrive after 8:15am and report directly to their entrance door. There is no outdoor recess or available supervision before 8:15am.
- Students will wash hands, wear a mask, and stay physically distanced from one another while following school policies and procedures at all times.
- An extra mask, a reusable water bottle, and a fully charged laptop are important school materials to remember each day. Leave the charger at home.
- Students may request a lunch each day and take one home as they leave.
- Dismissal is at 11:00am.
- During their afternoon, students are responsible for completing their assigned work and asking for help from their supporting teachers (Specials, PE, EL, intervention, Enrich/Accel). They may do so via live Zoom links, Teams, and/or sending a message.
Fully Remote Considerations
- During the morning, students are responsible for completing their assigned work and asking for help from their supporting teachers (Specials, PE, EL, intervention, Enrich/Accel). They may do so via live Zoom links, Teams, and/or sending a message.
- Students may request a lunch from their teacher and families may pick-up from James Hart Sports Complex each day.
- Live instruction with their homeroom teacher will take place in the afternoons.
What's Next?
- A placement letter will be sent to all families indicating homeroom teacher, learning model, transportation information, and more information and reminders about our shift to hybrid learning.
- Teachers and staff will be sharing lots of great information over the next three weeks to help prepare students and families for this transition. A student-friendly daily schedule and strategic tutorials on an improved Clever and Teams platform will be presented as we move towards this change.

STAR Assessment - WINTER
Churchill students will be taking the STAR Reading and STAR Math on Wednesday, February 17th and Thursday, February 18th. Students take STAR Reading and STAR Math tests once in the fall, winter, and spring.
In order to gain from STAR the most accurate information about each student and meaningful data that can be used to guide instruction, we ask that you help with the following:
Provide a quiet distraction free workspace for the duration of the STAR assessment.
Remind your child that the camera is highly encouraged to remain on for the duration of the STAR assessment to help us monitor remotely.
Teachers will be sharing more information with their students and families in advance of those testing dates.
