Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed a nice break from the everyday grind. We are excited to welcome our students back for the last few weeks of the semester (Midterms start on 1/21). If this is your first time taking Midterms at YHS please know that you do not need to attend study hall blocks, but you do need to come in for Academic Service blocks. If you have specific questions regarding Midterms please ask your individual teachers.
Congratulations to this week's Seacoast Student of the Week: Christopher Dimino! Each week, we nominate a student from York High School to be featured in the Seacoast Online. Here is what we said about Chris:
Chris is a standout student who is currently taking (and excelling in) four AP courses. He is a student-athlete who plays soccer and does indoor and outdoor track. Earlier this season he earned his "Green Check" from "Lead 'Em Up" as being a leader on his track team. Chris is also an active member of the York community who participates in his local Boy Scout troop.
Stay tuned to see who our Student of the Week is next week!!
Today we officially began working with First Student for transportation. As with any change, there may be some hiccups, so we appreciate your patience. If you have questions regarding routes (check out this link) or you can contact Shayle Smith at First Student. You can reach her by email at shayle.smith@firstgroup.com or by phone at 1-(603)-692-4406.
As always, if you need anything or have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Liza or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
Inclement Weather
Tis the season for delays and school cancellations. Superintendent Doak sent out the annual school closure letter back in October, but figured it was good to remind everyone about our procedures.
- If we have a two-hour delay, we start Block 1 at 9:50 (we do not send AM SRTC) and go through our entire bell schedule. If you have late arrival in your schedule Block 2 begins at 10:25.
- If school is canceled, we skip that color day and return to school the following day (all of our blue/white days are pre-determined).
- If Superintendent Doak calls a remote learning day we will follow the schedule below.
We try to notify everyone as soon as possible when there are changes to our school schedule. Superintendent Doak works closely with the highway department, the transportation department, and fellow superintendents to make the best possible decision for school cancellations.
