Macleans Primary School Community
Hello Everyone
Well here we are in March...where does the time go! We are well into PP1, the first Planning Period of 2024. The focus of the Inquiry and learning for PP1 is Festivals under the 2024 year long Inquiry focus Celebrations/whakanui.
Other than the learning there has been much going on at Macleans Primary recently, from sports to Junior Breakfasts. The local community has also been very busy as they are offering many activities to involve yourself in, from parent courses to drama. You can read all about the activities and offerings in this newsletter.
Are you a pet owner? Have a look at the Bixxy Box fundraiser below as it could be a 'win-win' for the school and your pet(s).
The Board met on Monday night. There is the usual focus on finance and property, but at this time of the year there is also focus on approval for the Macleans Primary Annual & Strategic plan for 2024-2026. This was approved by the Board and will be on the school website by the end of Friday this week at the latest. Also on the website by the end of Friday a the latest will be the minutes from the 5 February BoT meeting, another way in which we endeavour to foster a meaningful and strong home-school partnership. BoT minutes will be published on the website a few weeks after the meeting to allow time for official 'approval' of the minutes.
The Board also approved TWO Teacher Only Days (ToD) in May. These two ToD will be the first and last of the year. 17 May is the first ToD and 31 May is the second ToD Day. The 17 May ToD is for a whole school Structured Literacy Professional Development Session. Structured Literacy is an integral component of the Macleans Primary Curriculum and of all teachers pedagogy and practise. The 31 May ToD will be dedicated to a 'Curriculum Refresh' and planning and student learning review. We are aware of the challenges that ToD can cause and appreciate your support for these two valuable days for the school's direction and teacher's pedagogy & practise.
Please remember to check your personal kindo accounts, and if you do not have a kindo account you can see instructions below in this newsletter on how to set one up.
Communication has been sent out to our Y5/Y6 families stating that the Pubertal Change Programme scheduled for 6 march has been moved to 21 March.
Thanks to our wonderful for the cupcakes last week - yum!. Thanks also to the PTA who have managed the Friday after-school swim for the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately this Friday 8 March there will be no Friday after-school swim. The PTA are aiming for Friday 15 March, so 'watch this space' for confirmation next week.
On a final note, we love to celebrate the success and values achievements of Macleans Primary Children at school. We know that there may Macleans Primary children achieving great things outside of school too, whether in sports, the arts, at clubs and groups and in different cultural groups. Please share these with me (m.cooke@macleansprimary.school.nz) so we can highlight in the newsletter as we have done for the first time this year in this newsletter.
Thanks everyone and have a great week.
Enjoy the newsletter :)

So, if you DO NOT want your information about your child shared with the dental services, please let the office team (Sally or Sharon) know by the end of the school day, a week Friday, 15 March.

Digital Tech & Cyber-Safety at Macleans Primary School
Macleans Primary has a few different levels/support for cyber-security and digital safety. The first is the N4L (or Network for Learning) is an MoE supported network dedicated to supporting schools and kura. The N4L provides expert guidance on what we need to do to reduce the risk of any identified threats and vulnerabilities. The N4L also can support Macleans Primary through a cybersecurity incident, should we need. The N4L proactively monitors the network and will let us know if they discover any cybersecurity risks or issues at our school.
Linewize is a tool on the Macleans Primary network that helps us prevent problems through an advanced filter and reporting platform that supports student wellbeing and digital citizenship. Linewize also helps us monitor searches in real-time, human moderated monitoring that alerts us when there is a problem through a 'red-flag' system. If we get a red-flag on a device that is connected to ur network, whether it be 10am or 10pm, we will follow-up with the child and parents as needed. Linewize will also support Macleans Primary through education, ensuring that we teach students how to become more informed, resilient and ethical digital citizens.
The final level of digital safety and cuber-security that we use at Macleans Primary is Netsafe and Hectors World. Netsafe is used by teachers to help children with digital safety and help them become good digital citizens. Similarly, Hectors World is typically a junior-middle school website that helps younger children understand what it means to be a 'good digital citizen. For more information on the N4L, Linewise, Hectors World and Netsafe, please go to the websites below:

This could be because you have not yet set up your myKindo account OR. you have a myKindo account already, but are using a different email address to log in, than the one the school has on file for you.

Un-Packing The New Macleans Local Curriculum in 2024 Pedagogy
Pedagogy - What teachers Do In The Classroom
Pedagogy refers to the method and practices of a teacher. It's how they approach their teaching style, and relates to the different theories they use, how they give feedback, and the assessments they set. When people refer to the pedagogy of teaching, it means how the teacher delivers the curriculum to the class.
