Welcome Back to School!
Oak Crest families,
It was great to see the smiling, and yawning, faces of our kids this week. They were definitely tired from the winter break, so a short 2-day start was perfect. Next week, we will be full speed ahead with curriculum and mid-year math and reading testing.
Please help your kids get back into the routines of the school year with good rest, nutrition, and healthy habits at home. Don't forget to encourage daily reading at home each night, it is the best predictor of school success!
Next week, we have an all school meeting at 8:25am on Wednesday that will include performances by the 5th and 6th grade bands. Parents of band students are welcome to attend the entire school assembly that will last approximately 45 minutes.

Cold Winters = Indoor Recess
It is getting colder everyday of 2025. Today we had indoor recess, and we expect many more ahead. When we are above 0 as a "feels-like" temperature, we will get kids out as they need to move! To make this possible, we need to have kids ready for the extreme colds. Covered ears, covered hands, and zipped winter coats are required everyday. Please send them prepared!
If we have indoor recess, we are trying to limit iPad time. Our students are really good at interacting with screens, but learning to interact with each other is very important. We are trying to find creative ways to make indoor recess fun and engaging. If you have donations of cards, board games, or legos in good shape, please consider sending them to Oak Crest for our kids to use when stuck inside!
Snow Day #2
Reminder that if we have another school closure due to bad weather, it will be an e-learning day. Kids will be expected to log in from home to do school work and even have live interactions with teachers. Teachers will send home specific schedules, instructions and resources if this happens!

TIGER STRONG
In January, we have two areas of focus. Our Tiger Strong theme is "Attention to Details." We know that students are capable of great things. Great work, great relationships, great impact is made by doing the little things right and we hope to help children learn and practice that reality.
In January, we also have our annual Great Kindness Challenge. This event is a part of a world wide initative to lead with kindness and spread kindness to every corner of our world. Look for your kids to participate in a variety of kindness acts as we will present many opportunities for Tigers to see the impact they can make on the world by being kind.
Conversation Starters:
Ask your Oak Crest Tiger:
*What excites you about returning to school?
*What is your new year's resolution?
*What does it mean to pay attention to details?
*Who are 3 people that are kind to you at Oak Crest? How do they show you kindness?
*What book are you reading?
