The Patton Post

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, February 16th
Even though it was a short week, we sure were able to cram in tons of fun here at Patton! Assemblies, Lunar New Year Read-Alouds and Valentine's Day Parties, OH MY!
I hope you all found your conferences useful and informative this week. It was so wonderful to see so many of you and we are always so grateful for your partnership during these times.
I would like to express a huge THANK YOU to our PTA for the lovely dinner they provided the staff with on Thursday evening and for always looking after us so well. It is always greatly appreciated and we are truly grateful.
Last Friday, our student council and adult helpers dropped off over 1400 items to Journeys: The Road Home shelter! Journeys was overwhelmed with Patton's generosity and were delighted to take collection of so many items. This food drive was one of the most successful yet and I am so appreciative of your generosity.
Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL this coming Monday (19th February)
I hope you all enjoy the long weekend and I look forward to seeing our Panthers back at school on Tuesday, February 20th!

AYODELE DRUM AND DANCE GROUP - ASSEMBLY (NEW POST!)
On Monday, we were treated to an amazing assembly by the PTA! They organized for the Ayodele Drum and Dance group to come and perform for our Panthers. They performed songs and dances from various countries in West Africa. They taught the students different countries in West Africa and the names of the different types of drums they were playing. Our Panthers certainly enjoyed the performances and some of them even took to the stage to dance with the performers. THANK YOU PTA for always broadening our horizons and organizing such awe inspiring assemblies for us! We had a lot of students report that this assembly was a 10/10!

PATTON'S FIRST MULTICULTURAL NIGHT! (Ongoing POST!)
We are very excited about our first-ever Multicultural Night! As a Patton community, let’s come together to learn about, and teach one another about our many cultural backgrounds. This special event will take place on Wednesday, March 20th at 6:30 PM. The staff at Patton encourages all families in Kindergarten through 5th grade to participate in a school-wide evening of fun and learning.
We would love for families to showcase their cultural backgrounds and help our community learn about your traditions in a fun and creative way! Some ideas include: Lead a craft, create a tri fold poster board, showcase native dance, play an instrument featuring cultural songs, teach a game that your family plays, showcase clothing specific to your culture, teach others how to write letters and words in your native language, anything that is special that you and your family would be excited to share! No food, please.
If you're interested in showcasing your cultural background, here are some ideas:
Host an "exhibit" (These are all optional ways to participate.)
- Make a trifold poster board and include an information sheet with fun facts, photos, and more!
- Bring objects that kids can handle such as maps, flags, textiles, books, toys, clothing, pictures, games, art, etc. to showcase.
- Present a talent such as dance, playing a musical instrument etc.
- Teach a small group a game or craft
- Teach others how to write letters and words in your native language
- Prepare a media presentation to showcase.
OR
Enjoy the Event and visit the exhibits:
- Come dressed in clothing that celebrates your cultural background (optional).
- Visit each exhibit to complete your passport.
Please be sure to FILL OUT THIS FORM to let us know how you'll participate! Please respond by February 23rd! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Elizabeth Gabianelli at egabianelli@sd25.org
