CVU Celebrations
March 14, 2025
Guest Writer: Ry Hoffman, Director of School Counseling
Dear CVU Community,
As I enter my third year at CVU and in my role as Director of School Counseling, I still consider myself relatively new to this incredible school community. Over these years, I have witnessed countless moments that showcase the strength, generosity, and supportiveness of CVU.
Recently, I had the privilege of seeing our school motto—“taking care of each other”—come to life in a powerful way. This past week, CVU collaborated with members of a town’s fire department, the town manager, CVSD, and other local representatives to address a community challenge. Together, we worked to support students and families in need, ultimately providing essential accommodations. Watching this effort unfold was both eye-opening and heartwarming.
Moments like these reinforce what I have come to deeply appreciate: the communities that CVU serves are filled with compassionate, hardworking individuals who are willing to make personal sacrifices for the well-being of others. It is through these experiences that I feel truly grateful to be a part of the CVU community.

Student Council
On Wednesday, March 12th, CVU partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive in the CVU Main Gym. The gym was transformed into a donation hub filled with music, food, positivity, and one main goal in mind, to help save lives. It was incredible to see members of our community come together to support one another through this process. We are happy to announce that we obtained over 70 pints of blood through donation for the Red Cross thanks to the generosity of the CVU Community. We want to send out a big thank you to the amazing volunteers from the American Red Cross and Student Council, as well as all of the donors who participated in the event. Thank you!
Student Celebrations
From Lizzy Fox Lausier: Theo Novak is competing in State Finals for Poetry Out Loud tonight at 5pm. Livestream the event: https://www.flynnvt.org/Education/poetry-out-loud.
From Katie Antos-Ketcham: Thank you to some of the members of the EnAct Leadership Team who were able to meet with Colleen French of the Redhawk Cafe to talk about the staggering loss of reusable plates, bowls and silverware. Instead of being returned to the Cafe, these reusable items are being thrown into trash bins all over campus -- which increases costs and wastes resources. The EnAct club is launching a project to help everyone realize the problem and work to take steps together to build respect for this place and each other. From left to right, Alyssa H., Anna D., Alexa D., Maeve P.-C., and Rowan D.-D. R.
Also, the EnAct club worked hard to run their annual "Postcards for the Planet" campaign. This week they sent nearly 100 letters and postcards to our elected officials in Montpelier advocating for environmental legislation.
From Magali Simon-Martin: On our trip to Montreal our French V students were exemplary with our Canadian hosts at CBC Radio-Canada. They learned about and practiced creating news reports, radio dubbing, podcasts, and song recording--all in French. Students were engaged, diligent, and respectful. Students took a tour of TV and radio studios and saw a radio music show live.
We ended the day with dinner in a French neighborhood, Le Plateau.
Sincere thanks to Lianna Reed and our bus driver Steve for their enthusiasm and professionalism.
From Rae Bronenkant: This week the indoor track team took advantage of the warm weather and shoveled the track after practice. Us as coaches appreciate the enthusiasm and once we got the track started it did the trick! We are really looking forward to the outdoor season to start. Thanks for all the effort of the coaches and athletes to clear the track :)
FACULTY/STAFF CELEBRATIONS
From Jess Hoskins: On Wednesday, Kari Roberts (Fairbanks Core) and Marie DiBenedetto (Snelling Core) presented at a Teacher Slam at the Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Baltimore, MD on co-teaching in the math classroom. They shared best practices and "hot tips" for effective co-teaching and alignment of IEP goals with content targets to maximize student learning in a co-taught environment.

Screenagers: A Community Screening & Discussion

Authors, psychologists, and brain scientists offer actionable solutions for empowering kids and caregivers to navigate the digital world and find balance at home, school, and in their world.
Screening 7:00 p.m.
Discussion 7:55 - 8:30 p.m.
