Delayed Release
Don’t forget that on October 23 & 24 of this week our elementary and middle school have early release. That means Parkview students are the last to ride busses and therefore the busses will arrive late, delaying our dismissal. Please let your students know that the busses will be out of numerical order on those days. Students need to get directly to the bus lane to find their bus. There will be multiple staff members on hand with a bus map to help students find the location of their bus.
Red Ribbon Week Is Here
Join Parkview's Save/SADD Club As The Celebrate Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is a national drug prevention and awareness campaign that began with the murder of Enrique Camarena, an undercover DEA agent, in 1985. Coalitions began to form by those outraged by his death and the devastation drugs in this country caused - they wore red ribbons to honor him. By wearing a red ribbon in October, Americans pledge their opposition to drug abuse. Across the nation, students are pledging to avoid tobacco, drugs, alcohol, and violence.
DID YOU KNOW? Children of parents who talk to teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t – yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations?!
Visit www.redribbon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs.
This year SAVE/SADD has organized the following events in honor of Red Ribbon Week, October 21 through October 25:
Monday, October 21 - TEAM UP AGAINST DRUGS! Wear your favorite team shirt.
Tuesday, October 22 - Trivia and Prizes in the cafeteria
Wednesday, October 23 - WEAR RED!
Thursday, October 24 - Trivia and Prizes in the cafeteria
Friday, October 25 - PAWSitively DRUG FREE! Wear spirit wear.

Need to Check Out Early?
PLEASE follow these instructions...
- Prior to 7:15 am, the student should provide the Attendance Office with a note from the parent or guardian stating the date, parent contact number, the time requested for the check-out, and the reason. The student's absence due to checking out will only be excused if it meets one of the approved reasons stated in the GCPS Handbook.
- The student is then provided with a check-out pass to be shown to the classroom teacher at the time of the check-out. This pass should be brought to the Attendance Office to complete the checkout process. There is no need for the parent/guardian to come into the building, the student can meet their parent outside or if they are a driver, they can then leave campus.
- If the parent cannot be contacted, the student may not be allowed to check out. A parent or guardian must be contacted to grant permission before a student is allowed to leave campus.
If you do not follow the instructions above, or if your student is sick, a parent/guardian/emergency contact must come in and show their ID to check-out student.
Students who leave campus without following the check-out procedures will be considered AWOL from school and disciplined accordingly.
Note: On certain days when there are unexpected schedule changes or planned schedule changes, lines may be up to an hour long and last checkout times can be moved to 12:30pm.
We would love your support in following the above instructions. We have this process to limit the number of people entering the building during the day and to limit the interruption to classes. When the above process is followed, parents don't have to enter the school or only have to on rare occasions.

A Note From the Attendance Office
On Tuesday, October 29th, all 10th and 11th grade students, along with any 9th grade students who have registered, will take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). Parkview High School will follow a different schedule on this day, with testing concluding at 10:45 AM. To ensure students have uninterrupted time, checkouts will not be allowed during testing unless it is an emergency. We hope this information helps Parkview families plan appointments for after testing concludes.
Late Arrivals: We ask students to prioritize being on time as usual. However, if a registered PSAT student arrives after testing begins, they will not be permitted to test and will be relocated. Other late arrivals will report to their 1st period as normal. If students are displaced, they can view their new class location on their eClass landing page. This leads to higher grades, improved test scores and increased attendance. Current PTSA initiatives include:
- Community Event Parkview Day
- Grants to staff for educational initiatives
- Reflections, a national, PTA full range arts competition
- Staff appreciation luncheon
- Support of Parkview’s Care Team
- Baccalaureate Ceremony for graduating seniors
Your purchase of a Parkview PTSA Membership is what supports these and other Parkview initiatives.
