"Where it's always a great day to be a Bison!"
A Note from Ms. Marlatt
Dear Bison Families,
I hope you are all enjoying the very nice and warm temperatures we have had lately. It is a glimpse at summer fun coming ahead!
We start our second week of CMAS this week. Please review our schedule (shared below) and do your best to have students here on time, and everyday. This reduces the amount of make ups we have to do as a school.
We continue to monitor absences very closely. It is important that all our Bison come to school on time, everyday! What can you do as a family to make sure students are at school at 7:45am everyday?
Important: Infinite Campus Annual Update starts on April 15th and runs until April 30th. You can update your information for the 24-25 school year using OLR in your parent portal. If you do not have a portal account, this is a great time to get one! Please call our office if you need assistance.
Thank you for sharing your children with us!

- We have a group moving up to 2nd round for our 3rd grade opening. They will do a demonstration lesson this week.
- Ms. RhodVin is moving to Iowa! We wish her well! Her job was posted and we have a few good candidates to interview. Interviews will happen soon.
- We have interviews for a new Campus Supervisor this week.

Vote for your favorite new high school name!
The community provided lots of great name suggestions for the new district high school scheduled to open in 2027 in Commerce City.
Now it’s time to pick your favorite.
Voting is open through Friday, April 26 and the 27J Schools Board of Education is expected to make a final decision this summer.
Chromebooks and Chargers
In May, all Chromebooks will be turned in to their classroom teachers for the summer. All students are responsible for turning in their Chromebook and a charger at the end of the year. If your student doesn't have the original DELL charger issued when he/she received their Chromebook, your student will get a charge on their account for $30. Our district does not accept other chargers (purchased on Amazon, for example) because they void the warranty on the Chromebook. This mostly applies to 4th and 5th grade students who take their Chromebook home every night.
Registration Starts on the 18th!
Summer Opportunity
A Note from Ms. Adams:
Please help me congratulate our participants in this year's District Art Show. I am so proud of these students and the courage it took for them to put themselves out there!
I am also so ecstatic to announce that we had 3 students place 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 3D art category. I need to stress that this was not a small feat. Their art was put up against ALL elementary, middle AND high schoolers art. What an amazing accomplishment! Out of 15 awards given to the entire district, we received 3- isn't that wonderful!
Please help me give a special congratulations to the following students:
Neela Rivera (5th, Faria)- 1st place
Daisie Sanchez (4th, Weaver)- 2nd place
Guillermo Ocampo (5th, Faria)- 3rd place
Guillermo Ocampo (5th, Faria)- 3rd place

CMAS starts on April 9th
Second Creek Bison Families,
We enter our second week of CMAS testing. Please pay close attention to the following:
Chromebooks must be fully charged and brought to school with their chargers during this time.
Students must be on time for school, as required every day, but it is critical during testing days. If a student is late they might miss the test and have to take it on a different day.
Make sure that your child receives a good night's rest and is ready for their school day!
If you have any questions or concerns please contact our School Assessment Coordinator at cgardner@sd27j.net.
Here is our daily CMAS schedule:
- 5th Grade MATH testing - 4/16 through 4/18 - 8:15am to 9: 45 am (any 5th grade student who arrives after 8 am will have to wait and make up the test later. (PLEASE BE ON TIME!)
- 4th and 3rd grade MATH testing - 4/16 through 4/18 - 10am - 11:30am
- 5th Grade SCIENCE testing - 4/16 through 4/18 - 1:30pm - 2:50pm.
It is important that students test during this time. Please make appointments, etc. outside this window. We appreciate your help with our testing.
Our lower grade levels (Kindergarten - 2nd grade) have prepared inspirational notes and messages for our testing grades. These will be shared everyday with 3rd-5th grade tests. We are excited to see this happen and we know the encouragement will go a long way.

Traffic Reminders
If you are a returning family to Second Creek, you know our parking lot is small and needs special care during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Thank you for contributing to the overall safety of our staff and students!
If you are a new family to Second Creek, please read the information below carefully. Staff and sometimes Commerce City police are out during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal to make sure everyone is safe.
Parents, it is very important that we do not park on the bus lane before or after school. Blocking the bus causes delays that go beyond our school.
Here are a few reminders about our drop off and pick up procedures. You know that Commerce City police pops in once in a while and issue tickets to vehicles that are not following our safety rules... so please make sure you are doing what you can do keep our students and staff safe!
- No parked cars in the "no parking zone" - which is by the sidewalk from the beginning of the parking lot all the way to the front doors. This is a fire lane and also a bus lane. There is NO PARKING anytime. Only drop off or pick up. We have noticed many cars parked waiting for the school to open in the morning, blocking the bus and causing lines of cars that go all the way outside the parking lot. Please drop off your student and go - no parking.
- Same rules apply for pick up after school.
- Students can be dropped off at 7:30am. We do not have supervision for students who are dropped off before these times.
- If you drop your student off late, you have to come in and sign your student in at the front office.
- Students must be picked up at 3:30pm every day. We do not have staff to supervise students after school.
- Let us know if you need information about our before and after-school program.
- Please only use the handicap parking if you have a handicap license.
- The Staff of the Month parking is for staff only at all times.
We appreciate your cooperation!
