WEEK 4
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW FOR THIS WEEK...
Friday, September 20th is the first SWWC Student Council meeting.
- Student Council representatives should meet in the SHS library at 9:10 a.m.
- If needed, students in the afternoon classes can ride their home school's district-provided bus to/from SHS for the morning meeting.
Student Driving Reminder!
If a student is enrolled in a SWWC program at another location other than their home school, the expectation is that they ride the district-provided bus to their SWWC class.
- If a bus is not provided and the student is self-transporting, they must have the Long-Term Driving Form on file with the SWWC office.
- If a student misses the bus, see the home school principal to determine where to go.
- If there is a special circumstance in which the student needs to drive daily to their class, the Long-Term Driving Form needs to be on file with the SWWC office.
- The Long-Term Driving Form begins with the student, they will then send it to a parent/guardian, next it will be sent to the home-school (the district in which you live) principal, after that it will be sent to our office to keep on file. Students will not receive a SWWC hang tag until all of these steps have been completed.
If a student needs to drive for short term purposes, they should complete the Short-Term Driving Form. Please try to give at least three days to complete this process.
- Once the form is complete, the student will receive an orange temporary hang tag.
SWWC STUDENTS AT WORK!
"Anyone Can Make A Toast" Challenge in Culinary Arts!
Chef Danielle and Chef Ann discussed foods that anyone can make - cereal, a sandwich, eggs, and toast. The challenge was to make their best and most creative version of toast. They had versions of French toast, avocado toast, quail egg toast, and many original creations!
More from Culinary Arts!
Students received instruction and demonstration (so they knew what tools to use) before a "mise en place" challenge. The students had a list of tasks like: separate 6 eggs, grate 8 ounces of cheese, cube one pound of butter, zest and juice 2 lemons, etc. all in twenty minutes!
Automotive Technology class is all about hands-on learning!
Mr. Sly's Automotive Technology students spent some time last week learning how to properly lift a car. This is just one of the many skills that students will learn in this SWWC class.
WHAT IS THE SWWC?
The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 1000 students participate in our state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career.
On behalf of the thirty-eight SWWC staff members, we welcome you to the new school year! Thank you for enrolling in one of our twenty-two Career and Technical Education classes offered at Chelsea, Dexter, and Saline High School, as well as our off-site locations specifically for Cosmetology and Building Trades. We are excited to have you in the consortium!
If you have any questions, please contact Kara Stemmer, the Director of the SWWC at 734.401.4371 or via email at stemmkar@salineschools.org.
