Senior Trip to Washington DC
Spanish Honor Society Volunteer at Norfolk NATO Festival
On Saturday April 20, the Smithfield High School Spanish Honor Society volunteered at the annual Norfolk NATO Festival. Norfolk NATO Festival is the longest continuously running festival in the Hampton Roads region, and the only one of its kind in the United States which honors the NATO Alliance and its member nations. Students helped to set up different stations which represent NATO countries, such as Latvia, Macedonia, Hungary, Greece, and more.
For the first time, the students became “Members of NATO.” The NATO organization asked Smithfield High students to step in and represent the country of Luxembourg, who couldn’t attend the festival.

2024-2025 School Calendar and a Snow Day in May
At the March 14 School Board meeting, the board voted to approve a Snow Day in May!
IWCS has time built into the calendar to allow for missed days due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. IWCS has missed very little time this year and, as such, the Board elected to make May 24, the Friday before Memorial Day, a student and staff holiday. The hope is this time will allow students and staff to recharge before entering the final stretch of the school year.
In addition, the School Board approved the 2024-2025 School Calendar. A copy of the calendar is available on the division's website at https://www.iwcs.k12.va.us/apps/pages/school_calendar
