November 4th, 2024

This year, students have the opportunity to earn a Caught Being Awesome ticket for being respectful, responsible and safe wherever in the school. Students bring the tickets to lunch to get a book from the book vending machine! For this quarter, we've handed out 789 books to students!

Heritage Elementary
Our first PBIS Lunch and Learn was a success! Parents had the opportunity to talk with their children about home and school behavior expectations and consequences, and they were able to begin working on a Behavior Matrix for Home, which included expectations for getting up in the morning, chores, etc.
Seventy-four percent of our students had NO Referrals for the first quarter. These students will receive a coupon for a free kid's meal from an area restaurant. Thank you for being positive role models!
Students are awarded PBIS points in the following categories: On-Time, Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. Parents can download the PBIS Rewards app to monitor referrals and rewards.
There will be a Silent Disco on November 25, 2024. Only students that have NO Referrals (Bus, Major, or Minor) in the month of November will be eligible to participate.
Students with perfect attendance during the first quarter will have a pizza party this month.
Students are recognized weekly for acts of kindness and good deeds. Students are highlighted on the announcements each Friday afternoon, and photos are printed and hung in a display case for others to see. Recently, Ahmari was recognized for helping her friend, Cora, who has a cast on her foot and needs a friend's help daily. Thanks for being a great friend, Ahmari!

Unity Elementary held a Trunk or Treat for students who reached their classroom goals. Students brought in their costumes and got to walk the school block to get candy from several different stations and staff members. Goals were focused on attendance and being Respectful, Responsible, & Safe.-
Liberty Art Magnet School
On Tuesday, October 29 students from Liberty Arts Magnet School in grades 5-8 enjoyed time at Apex Sports Zone for their PBIS reward celebration for the month of October. Over 100 students earned the reward's experience. Students were able to play basketball, football, soccer, dodgeball, volleyball or just run around for a time.
North Middle School
North has begun using PBIS Rewards this year and students are loving checking in on the points they are using. Teachers are setting up classroom stores for students to purchase prizes in. Soon a school store will be happening as well. North students sold candy bars to raise money for rewards during the school year. During the 1st quarter 119 students were rewarded with a trip to Suter's Corn Maze in Pandora. Each student finished the day with a hayride and a pumpkin to take home.
Some students also earned a reward of a game truck by selling candy bars. They were super excited for time out of class to enjoy. Some students will also be enjoying Kona Ice and the Money Machine still to come.

West Middle School
We’ve started our year at West Middle School strong this year, setting high expectations for our students and seeing them succeed. Teams have been working hard to work individually with struggling students and finding ways to grow our positive rewards for all students. For our 1st quarter celebrations, we’ve celebrated 30+ students for being recognized for being g extraordinarily nice in their classrooms with a pizza party. We’ve also celebrated 145+ students who’ve had great attendance, being at school every day of the 1st quarter, with extra treats at their lunchtime. Nearly 140 students earned snacks and free time for having three checks or less for the 1st quarter! And lastly over 100 students earned enough points to qualify for our trip to Suter’s for their hay ride and corn maze. We continue to look forward to all the growth we’ll be seeing all year long.

September Honorees
Lima Senior High School
Hello, I hope all is well. The first quarter of PBIS has seen some good things happening within Lima Senior High School. In September our building celebrated Attendance Awareness Month and rewarded two students with a drawing for various prizes associated with earning perfect attendance. Mid-October marked the end of the first academic quarter of the school year. Over 350 students earned a spot on the academic honor roll in addition to an ice cream social that will be held during the first week of November.
Monthly PBIS Tier I and II meetings have also been held regularly. These meetings have been productive in supporting the individualized needs of our students, facilitating parent communication, and staff related support. Moving forward into November we will see a continued effort to increase staff participation in our PBIS Rewards program, continued student engagement throughout the PBIS framework, and an additional emphasis being placed on PBIS Reward applications.

PBIS At Home Tips: Questions for Families to Consider when Concerned about their Child’s Behavior
Are you concerned about your child’s behavior in school? This document is intended to assist families of children with disabilities that already have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in asking questions to learn more about their child’s behavior in school.
If you are concerned about your child’s behavior, we recommend
(a) using simple strategies to support your child’s behavior at home (check out our brief on PBIS at Home1 and a family planning guide2 that will help you get there) and
(b) talking with your child about what can help them at school. The next step is contacting your child’s teacher or another educator on their team to learn more about what’s going on at school. Consider the following topics to guide your conversation. •
Check-in: Greet your child’s teacher. Focus on your child’s strengths, raise your concerns, and start with a general check in on your child’s academic, behavioral, and IEP progress.
• Ask about patterns: Ask questions about times that are challenging for your child or patterns that may help explain why the behavior is happening.
• Ask about data: Ask to see data, or information, that may help you understand what’s going on at school.
• Ask about supports: Ask what is in place to help your child consistently meet school expectations and that makes school work better for them.
• Ask about evidence: Ask if there is research or data that shows these supports are likely to work for your child.
• Ask about staff support: Ask if the teacher and other staff are getting what they need to be able to help your child.
• Ask about ways to share your feedback: Ask for ways that you can be involved and share feedback with the teacher and other staff as you know your child the best!
Finally, based on this conversation, look for chances to work together with your child’s school to make school work better for them!
