West Point El. Parent Update

We hope you are enjoying the holiday season. We are looking forward to a lot of holiday magic this week!

If you have a student auditioning for the musical this week, please note that auditions are being held in the lunchroom.

Also, we are encouraging all students to pick their Excellence Projects by the end of this week. Please ask your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Here are four important things to know for the coming week.

1. Please see the holiday dress up calendar below. Starting Monday, December 16, students are invited to join us in a holiday countdown by dressing up to a different theme each day.
2. Our Christmas Ball, which will be a fun glow dance party, is this Wednesday afternoon. Students have completed 12 behavior challenges to earn this party. We hope they have a magical time!
3. School is out for Winter Break from Monday, December 23 - Monday, January 6. Students' first day back will be Tuesday, January 7.
4. Yearbooks can be purchased on myDSD. They cost $15.00 through December 31. Prices go up to $18.00 starting January 1.

Congratulations to last week's Principal Paw Award recipients! We love celebrating our students at our golden ears party and sharing the many ways they go above and beyond to be safe, respectful, responsible, and caring.

We are buzzing with excitement because the Spelling Bee is here again! Here are some important dates.

The Class Spelling Bees will happen in February 2024 during class time. Individual teachers will schedule the dates for their classroom Bees.

Grade-Level Spelling Bee will be Wednesday, February 19, in the gym during school hours. More information and times will be sent out after winter break.

West Point Elementary School Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 4 PM in the gym – parents, friends, and family are welcome!

The North-End Semifinal will be in mid to late March, typically at Layton High School, with the grand finale on April 21, 2025, at Clearfield High School.

We are excited to announce our Lego Mindstorms after-school enrichment class. Students who are fascinated with engineering and computer programming will love this class!

There will be two sessions for the class.

• The first session will be held Wednesday, January 15 and Wednesday, January 22. This session costs $10 and teaches basic programming skills. Applications are due on Friday, January 10. Please submit applications early. Late applications will not be accepted.
• The second session begins Wednesday, February 5 and runs through Wednesday, April 30. This session costs $35 and will involve students working in pairs for the competition. Applications are due on Thursday, January 23. Please submit applications early. Late applications will not be accepted.

Check out the list of books our 3rd-6th grade students are reading to prepare for this year's Battle of the Books! Be sure to ask them about the books they have been reading. They might enjoy reading some of these books over the break!

This week's manner is "Appreciate Gifts," and it is tailor-made for the holiday season! We show gratitude, kindness, courtesy, and good manners when we say thank you to others for caring enough to give us a gift. 💚

52 Modern Manners for Kids

We will be focusing on a very important trait during December and January, and that is inclusion. Belonging and inclusion are the most important priorities in our district, and students will participate in some fun activities that build a culture of belonging and inclusion in our school.

Please help your students stay on track for earning their brag tags during this last week of school. Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.
