Back to School Night & Safety Week
Hello families & caregivers!
We have enjoyed welcoming back our students. Our students are learning about kindness, routines, and expectations. Additionally, students are building strong relationships with their classroom teachers and therapists. Thank you for entrusting your children with us. Please communicate with the teacher and classroom teams if you have any pertinent information to share regarding your child.
Back to School Night
On Wednesday, September 18th we will hold our back-to-school night. This event is at ELC from 5:00-6:00 pm for your family to learn about our school and district priorities. Students and families are welcome for fun, dancing, and an opportunity to get to know our staff. We will have a live preschool DJ and fun stations set up.
Barrington D220 Safety Week
During the week of September 9th, our district engages in safety drills. Please read the letter below regarding the drills at ELC.
Parking Lot Safety
- With the addition of the new turn lane off Dundee Road, please be especially mindful when entering and exiting the lot.
- Upon arrival in the parking lot, please park in the back row or the upper lot, to ensure our many buses can arrive, load and unload safely and timely. They are required by law to report violators.
- Please adhere to all posted signs, avoid distractions while driving, and be on the lookout for our young pedestrians. Additionally, remind your little ones to always use designated crosswalks and to wait for an adult’s guidance when navigating the parking lot.
- We also want to remind you to review the post shared on Seesaw regarding the procedure for daily student pickup by car (also linked HERE).
Your vigilance is crucial in ensuring the safety of our students. Together, we can create a secure and welcoming space for our community. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to our children’s safety!
Health Information
Our district Health and Wellness Policy supports the state level effort to combat childhood obesity. In addition, we have students in our school with many allergies that we need to keep safe. In support of this effort, we do not celebrate birthdays with food or treats. We recognize that birthdays are an important occasion in a child's life, and we do honor that. Teachers have special birthday traditions in their classrooms to recognize a child’s birthday.
Please do not bring in food treats with your child as we will need to send them home with your student. A daily snack is provided to all students. To keep all of our students safe, students should not be bringing any food or snacks to school at any time. Thank you for honoring this decision as we support the health and wellness of all our students.
When to keep your child home from school:
Parents/guardians should keep a child home when any of these symptoms are present:
● Fever (within the last 24 hours of 100 degrees or more)
● Nausea or vomiting
● Skin rash or sores
● Reddened, swollen, or watery eyes
● Red or swollen joints
● Diarrhea
● Excessive coughing or sneezing
● Sore throat
● Headache or earache
Children should be kept home for 24 hours after an elevated temperature has returned to normal without fever-reducing medication. Parents/guardians are asked to keep their child home for 24 hours after vomiting or diarrhea. If any of these symptoms persist, please contact a healthcare provider. If a child is on an antibiotic, they may not return to school unless they have been on medication for a 24-hour period as well as fever-free for 24 hours.

PreK Assessments
Our preschool students will be assessed throughout the school year to help guide instruction. For early childhood students, teachers assess with the PELI, GOLD, and ESGI throughout the year. For further information, please review the assessment letter below or speak to your child's teacher.
Referendum Community Information Meetings this month
During the first half of 2024, more than 2,500 community members collaborated on a plan to continue to improve Barrington 220's aging school buildings. The final $64M community-driven plan will go to you, the voter, for approval as a referendum question on this November 5 election ballot. If successful, the referendum will:
- Increase Safety & Security throughout Barrington 220
- Build a New Community Auditorium at Barrington High School
- Enhance STEAM and Instructional Spaces for Students
Join us at one of our upcoming community meetings to learn more about the referendum, tour current spaces, and see why these improvements are needed:
- 6pm Monday, Sept. 9 at Barrington High School
- 6pm Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Station Campus
- 6pm Thursday, Sept. 19 at Barbara B. Rose Elementary
- Noon Saturday, Sept. 28 at Barrington High School (immediately following the homecoming parade)
