February 7th 2025 Principal's Message
Hello Bruin Families,
Happy Friday! It has been a fun week this week and a time to feel proud for being a Bruin. Here are a couple of highlights from the week:
Our GT students went on a field trip to the Fiske Planetarium.
Some of our students started traveling to Bauder this week to tutor students.
Our wrestlers did an amazing job representing us at the tournament last weekend with several of our athletes placing and also brought in a win this week against the Timnath Cubs.
Students sold Candy Grams at lunches this week for students to purchase for Valentine's Day.
I also wanted to remind you that, this year, we will be doing Student-Led conferences. This will be on Thursday, Feb. 20th from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. Students and families are invited to come at any point during that window of time. Students are to bring their charged laptops and guide their family members to a classroom of a teacher they have and go through their conference with them. Students have been working hard with teachers to prepare their conferences to show you the learning they have been doing. We are excited to see you there!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

Information about Parent/Teacher Conferences
Hello Bruin Families!
We are excited to announce that this year’s Spring Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 20th from 3:30pm - 7:00pm in a Student-Led Conference format. Below you will find a general overview of what to expect as well as some of the reasons we are choosing this format for the Spring:
Student-Led Conference Details:
You may arrive with your student anytime between 3:30pm - 7:00pm for an Open-House style conference with your student.
Students should come prepared with their charged laptops.
Your student will lead you to a classroom of their choice to lead you through their conference
Students will be working with all of their teachers to prepare and practice their conferences starting Monday, Feb. 3rd. They will be linking classroom artifacts and items into an online document that will help showcase their learning.
Students will be receiving credit in their English classes for their completion and participation in student-led conferences. Because of this, if you are able to make it, please make sure your student checks out with their English teacher or, if you cannot make it, English teachers will be handing out slips to be signed so your student can participate in the student-led conference at home.
Teachers will be walking around to greet you and answer questions; however, this is a night for your student to lead the way and show the growth and goals they have created this semester. This means that teachers will not be available for a traditional 1:1 conference during this time. Please note that you are always welcome to contact a teacher to set up a meeting with them at a different date.
Key Features of Student-Led Conferences:
Student Ownership: The student leads the conference by sharing their learning journey, showcasing work, and discussing strengths and areas for improvement.
Reflection: Students reflect on their progress and set goals for future learning. They may highlight work they are proud of and identify areas where they seek further growth.
Collaboration: Teachers are present to offer support, answer questions, and provide feedback, but the focus is on the student’s self-assessment and communication.
We are looking forward to seeing you all!
From the Blevins PTO
Hello Bruin Family-
Hope everyone is off to a great February! We had a very productive PTO meeting last week. On top of “regular business”, we had the opportunity to hear from a very organized and articulate young student representing the Greenhouse Club. This club works together to plan, manage and oversee the growth of several hundred plants so that at the end of the year, every Blevins student gets to take home a plant of their own! She presented a very professional presentation requesting “seed money” (pun intended 😉) to allow them to purchase the items they need to begin this wonderful project. Thanks to everyone that donates to PTO every year, we had the ability to grant them the money they needed to get this great project started!
Our next PTO meeting will be Feb. 25th @ 5:30 in the Collaboration Café. We invite you to come be a part of supporting our teachers and staff in making Blevins an exceptional place for our students to learn and grow!
Sincerely,
Shauna Moffatt
PTO President

Love letters preferred but hate mail will be read 😉)

9th Grade Registration Information
The time for 9th grade registration has begun! No matter the high school your 8th grader will be attending, we will be working at Blevins to best support students in the big transition ahead. We wanted to make sure we communicated our plan, as well as provide resources for the registration process at each high school. Please see our 9th grade registration information page on the Blevins counseling website for important upcoming dates and additional information.
Important Vision and Hearing Screening Information
We need several more volunteers to help with vision and hearing screening the morning of Tuesday, February 11 from 8:00 am-11:00 am. Please sign up through Raptor. You will receive an email about the screening process shortly before the scheduled date. Contact Becca Dahl, Health Tech, at 970-488-4007 or bdahl@psdschools.org if you have any questions. If your child wears glasses, please be sure they have their glasses at school for the screening.
Thank you! Your help is very much appreciated!
