HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
BOYS AND GIRLS CREW
The boys and girls crew teams participated in the Garden State Scholastic Championships (“States”) at Cooper River on April 27th. 46 New Jersey High School teams competed. Our team won a total of 7 medals (3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze) in the following categories:

BOYS CREW
Last Saturday the Boys Rowing team traveled to the Cooper River for the Garden State Championships. All season long the Boys Varsity, leD by Seniors, Ryan Manning & Arton Jonuzi, have been going toe to toe with Saint Augustine’s Varsity 8 and this was no exception. After a bit of a slow start the Boys made their move coming from 30 feet behind to finish 30 feet ahead of the Hermits, claiming second place behind Montclair H.S. Also, making it to the medal podium was the boys Novice 8, which claimed gold by a commanding 6 seconds and the Boys Freshman 8 winning Bronze behind Montclair and Christian Brothers Academy.
Racing Season continues this weekend with the Philadelphia City Championships, where over 550 entries will compete on Saturday and Sunday. EHT Boys has 5 entries this weekend Varsity 8, Lightweight 4, JV 4, Freshman 8 & Novice 8 and is looking to be among the top 3 finishers in all events. The Boys Varsity 8 comprised of Ryan Manning, Chase Brown, Ryan Jones, Elijah Pena, Rocco Riccardi, Owen McGeough, Guido Vaccaro, Arton Jonuzi and Cameron Riordan will be going against tough Competition again with Montclair, LaSalle Prep and Saint Augustine entered against the Eagles.

GIRLS CREW
Girls crew had a great day at the Garden State Rowing Championships on the Cooper River, placing five boats in afternoon finals after morning qualifying heats.
The Lightweight Four led the way taking home the gold medal after a close race with Montclair High School. The two crews finished less than a half-second apart, and several seconds ahead of third-place Mainland.
The Novice 8 also brought home gold medal, dominating their race by beating seond-place Ocean City by 16 seconds. The Girls Junior 4 brought home a bronze medal in its final and the Novice 4 also won a bronze. Rounding out the finalists was the Varsity 4, which finished sixth.
Racing continues this weekend at the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association Championship on the Schuylkill River.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
The Boys Track team improved to 5-0-1 on the season with wins over Hammonton and Gami this week. The team competes at the SJ Elite meet tonight at Delsea.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
The girls track and field team were represented by Amari Pinkett, Taylor Rooney, and Michaela Schlemo as the three girls competed at the SJ Elite on Thursday, May 2nd at Delsea High School. The three did an outstanding job. Amari competed in the triple jump and the 400 hurdles. Taylor competed in the 800 meters. Michaela competed in the 1600 meters.
The girls also competed at the historic Penn Relays last week with two relays:
4x100 Gabby Hiltner, Jasmin Halim, Samantha Reed, and Gabby Piantadosi
4x400 Samantha Reed, Kiki Schlemo, Taylor Rooney, and Amari Pinkett
The girls track and field team also celebrated their seniors last week with a special senior night.
The entire team is looking forward to a great championship season.
GOLF
Our Birds continued to soar through the season. On Monday, they flew south to Cape National shooting 171. While it wasn't good enough to improve their team ranking, it was a great experience. Senior Captain Johnny Neveling and junior Chase Adomaitis led the way with matching 41s, while senior Ryan Griffin (43) and freshman Dylan Hawkins (46) rounded out the scoring.
Tuesday saw the Eagles fly south once again, but this time to the prestigious Union League. The team score of 164 was good enough to post the 2nd best round of the year, improving the overall team ranking and earning the Eagles a berth in next week's South Jersey Group IV Sectional tournament. Johnny Neveling's +1 37 led the way with Chase Adomaitis (42) and seniors Andrew Lisa (42) and Carson Bellak (43) rounding out the scoring.
On Wednesday, the Lady Eagles flew west to Eastlyn to compete in the season's 5th CAL girls’ event. Junior Olivia Nehmad (45) placed 4th, with freshman teammate Camille More (46) placing 5th.
Thursday saw the Eagles fly west to Valleybrook to compete in one of New Jersey's premier high school golf events, the Carl Arena-Al Rifkin Memorial tournament. The boys finished 22nd out 55 teams, led by Chase Adomaitis (78) and Johnny Neveling (79). The girls placed 9th out 18 led by sophomore Julie Duggan (93).
The Eagles will compete next Monday in the South Jersey Group IV Sectional tournament at Charleston Springs.
GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL
On Wednesday, the Girls' Flag Football team defeated a tough Hammonton team 13-6. The Eagles were led by strong defensive performances from Taylor Rooney, Thaina Saintel, and Gabby Piantadosi. Junior Journey Green also had a 65-yard touchdown run. The girls are now 3-0 and will be home again next week against Delsea.
GIRLS VARSITY LACROSSE
Girls Lacrosse has continued to carry out a successful season with our win against Oakcrest on 04/23 - 13-4 Final! Stats from this game consisted of Taylor Lear - 4 Goals, 1 Draw Control & 2 Forced Turnovers, Jossalyn Gagnon - 4 Goals & 2 Forced Turnovers, Angelina Petracci - 2 Goals, 3 Assists, 5 Draw Controls, Jenna Gray, Jamie Decker & Skyler Wood - 1 Goal each. Girls Lacrosse also came through with a win versus Absegami on 04/25 - 19-2 Final for our Purple Dedication Cancer Game! We had a tough loss to Middle Township on Saturday, 04/27 - 12-10 but the girls were fully committed to closing the gap on the scoreboard in the game!
This week we started out strong with away win in the hot spring weather against Millville on 04/28 - 13-8 Final! Suhayla Johnson Ramirez also locked down her 300th career save in this game! The girls continue to keep count their successes by winning a huge game against Cedar Creek on Wednesday, 05/01 with a 10-8 final! Stats from this game consisted of Angelina Petracci - 5 Goals, 3 Draw Controls & 1 Forced Turnover, Jessica Chishko - 3 Goals & 3 Forced Turnovers, Skyler Wood - 2 Goals & 5 Forced Turnovers, Taylor Lear had 1 Assist & 10 Draw Controls and Brielle Hill had 13 Saves!!!! EHT Girls Lacrosse were also interviewed and posted in the AC Press this week!
We are ending our week with a Home Senior Night on 05/03 @ 5:30PM against Atlantic City & an away game against Oakcrest on 05/04 @ 11AM!

Diamond Classic Round 1
Lawson McIntosh picked up the win and Jay Salsbery recorded the save. Eagles use hidden ball trick to secure the win in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Eagles had eight hits, with Eli Gordy recording 2 hits.

Prep 7 EHT 5
Eagles drop one to rival St. Augustine prep giving up 6 unanswered runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Eagles held a 5-1 lead heading into the 6th inning.

EHT 3 Vineland 1
Eagles complete the sweep of the Fightin Clan. Jay Salsbery earned his second win of the season. Salsbery line for the day 7 inning, 4 hits 1 run, 0 ER, 6 strikeouts on 67 pitches. Mike Baxter was 2-3, RBI, Salsbery squared up a double and scored 2 runs, Mike Piskun was 2-3 on the day.

EHT 10 Absegami 5
Eagles pounded out 16 hits enroute to victory! EHT offensive attack was led by Jake Cagan 3-5, 2B, 3B, RBI, run scored, while also collecting his first varsity win on the mound. Other with multiple hits on the day , Jay Salsbery 2-3, 2 runs, RBI, 2 Stolen Bases (tied school career record at 47 stolen bases). Lawson McIntosh 2-2, Mike Piskun 3-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI, Austin Fisher 3-4, run scored, 3 RBI.

BOYS TENNIS AND UNIFIED SPORTS
Boys Tennis enjoyed hosting our school's Unified Team. Everyone had so much fun. At the end of the day, our team Captain Vincent Zheng asked everyone, "What is your favorite sport?" When Unified players responded, "Tennis!" we knew the day was a true win for everyone.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS
FERNWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL - SPRING TRACK AND FIELD
TRACK MEET UPDATE:
BOYS
In a meet that came down to the wire on Monday 4/29/2024, the boys track team suffered a tough loss against William Davies (38-44). However, the competition brought out some of the best times of the season.

Top performer in the long jump was J.P. Jonathan Parker.

Jahiyd Mcclellan took first in the 100m with a time of 11.8 seconds.

Tim Rooney came in 2nd in the mile with a new personal best 5 min 44 seconds.

Sebastian Antonius and Connor Adderley went one two in the 400 m.

JP took 2nd in the 200m
-
Anton Lavreniuk won the 800m and Marko Markoski came in 3rd.

Our relay team of JP, Connor, Sebastian, and Jahiyd won the 4 by 200 meter relay inching their way toward the school record.

Franco Dente and Aiden Phruksaraj took 2nd and 3rd in the shotput and Franco also took 2nd in discus.
GIRLS
The girls also lost to Davies yesterday, but we saw some amazing performances.
The top performers on the day were:

Saniya Tolbert won the 100m by a large margin.

Neena Peters won the Mile and Lily Tosh took third.

Kaycee Biel came in third in the 400m.

Melodie Au took third in the 200m.

Jackie Brownlee, again, won the 800m and Neena Peter came in third.

Corynn Williams took third in the shot put.
****A big congratulations to Jackie Brownlee who ran 800 meters in 2 minutes and 34 seconds breaking a record that has stood since 2009. Jackie’s name will join the list of Fernwood track legends. Well deserved and a truly amazing effort! Great job Jackie! #RunTime!
