COMMUNITY UPDATE
Hello North Rockland Families,
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, there’s a vibrant sense of pride and celebration across our schools. From impressive athletic achievements to academic and artistic accolades, our students and staff continue to show what it means to be part of this special North Rockland community.
We’re incredibly proud of our varsity Softball, Girls Lacrosse and Boys Lacrosse teams, each of which competed in the Section One semifinals. Our Girls and Boys Track & Field teams made history by earning the League, County and Section titles - completing the coveted Triple Crown. They now head to State Qualifiers with the New York State Championships next week. We’re cheering them on every step of the way!
In the arts, congratulations go to NRHS Junior Emersen Armida, who was awarded the 2025 Metro Award for Outstanding Performance by a Student Critic. This prestigious recognition highlights not only Emersen’s voice and insight but a deep commitment to the performing arts. We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing where her talent takes her during her senior year!
Before the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, we celebrated 80 dedicated educators across the district who have earned tenure for the 2024-25 school year - a well-earned recognition of their lasting impact and years of excellence in our classrooms. Thank you for everything you do to support our students!
This week, Thiells Elementary held its joyful kindergarten graduation and next week our lower and upper elementary schools will celebrate their Grade 3 and Grade 6 Moving-Up Ceremonies. We’re excited to welcome these students to Upper Elementary and Fieldstone in the fall as they begin new chapters in their educational journeys.
At Stony Point Elementary, sitework is underway with the goal of creating a safer and more efficient parent pick-up and drop-off area while also increasing parking capacity for school events. The District has been intentional about addressing neighborhood concerns - including drainage, lighting, tree preservation and privacy - and is working to preserve the park-like feel of the property. For more details, please see the “SPES Sitework” section below.
With so many milestone moments unfolding, now is a meaningful time for each of us to reflect on how far we’ve come. To the NRHS Class of 2025, your final week of classes is behind you. We’ll see you next as you cross the stage on Casarella Field to receive your diplomas. We know many families have questions about graduation and we want to ensure the evening is both joyous and safe so that everyone can focus on the celebration. For details regarding the Graduation Ceremony on June 24, please view this Graduation Q&A with frequently asked questions to help you feel fully prepared for this momentous occasion.

SPES Sitework
Work is underway at Stony Point Elementary to improve safety and traffic flow on the property. The project’s primary goals are to create a safer, more efficient parent pick-up and drop-off area and to increase parking capacity for school events. In response to neighborhood feedback, the District is implementing residential-style lighting, drainage improvements, tree preservation and a privacy fence along Jay Street.
While the area may look bare now, once the project is complete, new trees and additional screening will be added to maintain the welcoming, park-like feel of the campus. This exciting project will ultimately be safer and more convenient for our students, staff and families.
We’re working hard to complete the upgrades in time for the start of the 2025-26 school year in September. While much of the work has taken place during weekends and holidays to minimize disruption, we apologize to neighbors for any inconvenience and ask for your continued patience. Our timeline is ambitious, but our priority is to ensure the school year begins on a safe and successful note.

Evans Scholarship Recipient - Molly Craffey
We are ecstatic to announce that Molly Craffey, a dedicated North Rockland student-athlete, has been awarded the Chick Evans Scholarship, presented by the Western Golf Association, covering FULL tuition and housing for all four years at the University of Maryland, College Park!
This prestigious national scholarship is no easy feat, over 920 caddies applied, and only 340 were selected. Out of 12 recipients from New Jersey, Molly is one of just two female caddies to earn the honor this year! A caddie for three seasons at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, NJ, Molly was chosen for her outstanding character, strong caddie record, excellent academics, and demonstrated financial need. She will be majoring in Government and Politics and is now part of an elite network of Evans Scholars across 24 top universities, from the University of Chicago to the University of South Carolina.
The excitement doesn’t stop there, Molly will also be caddying for a PGA Tour pro during the practice round of the BMW Championship on August 13, a once-in-a-lifetime experience made possible by the Evans Scholars Foundation, the charitable arm of the PGA Tour event! We are incredibly proud of Molly and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes. Way to represent North Rockland at the highest level! ❤️
