Hello Darby Families and Happy February!

Did you hear we are the Best of the River Valley!?!? We are very honored to be recognized by the Best of the River Valley organization. All FSPS middle schools are awesome, but Darby is the BEST because of our talented staff, supportive parents, and amazing students! Thank you to all who voted for our school.

This month our identified English Language Learners will take the ELPA21 assessment. This assessment measures a student's proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening to, and understanding English. Our bilingual students have been working so hard this year and I know will do great on this assessment! We are scheduled to administer this test February 22-25. If your child takes this test please help us out by ensuring they eat a good breakfast and are at school on time.

Just a reminder that we do not accept deliveries in the office for students. This includes Valentine's Day delivers. We do not have the space or office staff to handle deliveries. Our Student Mentors will be selling Candy Grams during lunch the next two weeks. Students can buy items ranging from $.50 to $10.00 for their friends or teachers. If you would like to send your child a Candy Gram you can order one through the front office.

National School Counseling Week is February 7-11. We have the most wonderful school counselors here at Darby. They work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students' academic concerns, career options and social/emotional skills. They help increase student achievement and provide much needed resources for our students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success! Here is a link to a previous Smore letter that highlighted some of the many services our counselors provide here at Darby Middle School.

Many teens need some help when it comes to getting organized. Help your teen establish a regular time and place for doing homework. Suggest making daily to-do lists and using a timer to help concentrate on the task at hand. Then help your student create regular routines, like preparing for the next day in the evening, and having a work area clean-up once a week.

Please contact individual teachers if you have a question about a course grade. Teacher emails can be found on our school website. Teachers are always available for phone or in-person conferences. Parents can check student grades on a daily basis throughout the school year using Schoology. This is a great resource provided by our district! If you need help accessing your student's grades please call the office to speak with a counselor or principal.

The cost is $15.00 and can be paid to Ms. Thomas (Room 222) or Ms. Rogers (323). Yearbooks will arrive in early May of 2022. If you would prefer to purchase on-line, please go to https://yearbookforever.com and enter Darby in the school name.

Did You Know? Darby students and their family members are eligible to receive services from the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) located on the Darby Campus.
