Macleans Primary School Community
Hello Everyone
Two more days to go in term 1 2024 and all is well in the classrooms at Macleans Primary; the kids are learning, values are on display....but, what is that around the corner? Yes, it's a two week break for the children at Macleans Primary. And, what a well-deserved holiday it will be for all of the children as they take a breather from their learning in the classroom to their learning outside of the classroom and at home! We are always learning, right?
Thanks everyone for your support of our 'home-school partnership' in Term 1; Term 1 is 'in the books' and Term 2 promises to bring with it heaps of Macleans Values and Macleans Learning: Local Curriculum, Learning Pathways and the LEARN Model. We also look forward to the learning conferences in Term 2; dates TBA early next term.
Two more days left in the term and a reminder that we have TWO cazh days tomorrow and Friday. Tomorrow's cazh day is for ATARAU house only. A note would have come home yesterday stating that your child is in Atarau house and they are invited to wear cazh tomorrow. On Friday it is our traditional 'end of term cazh' for all (no school uniform) celebrating a great term at Macleans Primary!
Another reminder to stay tuned to the email, seesaw, facebook and skool loop as there could be notices and/or reminders from the school (me) or your child's teacher.
Please have an enjoyable, relaxing and fun two week break. We look forward to seeing all of the children again on Monday 29 April, the first day of term 2.
Enjoy this newsletter!

Evergreeen Enviro Team News & Updates
Our Enviro team came together to brainstorm different ideas around us making a difference. In this time the learners realised that there is more to Enviro than just the gardens at our school. We have planned to do some cleaning around our school to prevent litter getting into our streams and sea, plant some flowers to encourage pollinators to our school, plant vegetables and herbs for us to bring to our tables, adopt a park as well as entering the MothPod competition.
Our Year 5 and 6’s had the opportunity to go to the Murvale Reserve to explore with Auckland Council that we have adopted this year. We will get an amazing opportunity to plant 60 more Native plants in the reserve on the 5th of June.

Un-Packing The New Macleans Local Curriculum in 2024 Learner Agency
Learner Agency
What is Learner Agency?
Students have a sense of "agency" when they feel in control of things that happen around them; when they feel they can influence events. This is an important sense for learners to develop. They need to be active participants in their learning.
Agency involves the initiative or self-regulation of the learner. Learners must have a belief that their behaviour and their approach to learning will make a difference for them in their learning context – in other words, a personal sense of agency.
Agency is interdependent. The learner is not working in isolation doing their own thing and what suits them, there's connectedness.
Agency includes an awareness of the responsibility of ones own actions on the environment and on others. Every decision a learner makes, and action she or he takes, will impact on the thinking, behaviour or decisions of others – and vice versa.
