A Thought from Principal Mayer
It is hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end. It seems like yesterday, we were inviting scholars in for the ice cream social event, introducing them to the teachers and showing them around. Now we are just a few short weeks before summer vacation. It has been a trying few weeks with ILEARN testing finishing up and now we move into our end of the year NWEA test.
As we wind down to the end of the school year, we start to take things for granted. A horrifying example of that would be the student who was hit by a car at an IPS school, last week, during drop off. It only takes one person and a spilt second to lead to an event such as this. I want to say thank you to all of our families for following the rules and regulations of drop off and pick up. However, I feel that an event such as what happend at the other school warrants a refresher in the procedures for drop off and pick up.
Morning drop off procedures:
1. Doors open at 8:50AM. Please make sure scholars are staying in their car until the doors are opened.
2. Mr. Mayer or antoher staff member will greet the bus scholars and make sure they get off the bus in an expeditious and safe manner. Mr. C. or another staff member will greet the car riders doing the same.
3. Once your scholar(s) exit the vehicle, please have them go immediatly to the sidewalk and enter the building.
4. Once your scholar(s) are clear of your car, please be patient and wait for the cars and buses in front of you leave. Do not try to pass the car in front of you, for you never know if someone else is getting out.
Pick Up Procedure
1. Student dismissal starts at 3:25PM. If you pick up your scholar from school, please create a line in the parking lot.
2. Do NOT park your car in the parking spots west of the entrance doors. Those parking spots are slotted for buses, as to keep them out of the way.
3. Once all car riders are in the front office, Mr. Mayer will open the doors, approach your car, and call the scholars to come to your car. Once, your scholar is loaded, please pull off slowly and safely.
4. Please wait for the cars in front of you to pull of, because, again, if they are waiting on another schoar or open their door, it could cause an accident.
5. Once everyone in the car rider line is loaded, and the cars start moving, we will call the bus scholars to load the bus.
The accident that occured at the other school could of been caused by impatient parent, a scholar vearing from the standard protocol or we just get so comfortable with what we are doing, we lose focus. Regardless of the reason for this accident, if we all stay focused on our surroundings, follow the instructions, and practice patience, we will all get to school safely and return home safely.
Your help in this is greatly appreciated.
