A Message from Principal Jackson
I hope everyone is finding time to get some rest and relaxation time this summer! As we get closer to school opening for SY 20-21, I wanted to share some very high level information about what to expect for shifts for Virtual Learning coming this fall. Please keep in mind that much of this evolving quickly - school leaders and leadership teams are in training this week to learn more and spend time planning.
DCPS has made several commitments to shifts from the distance learning of this past spring to what virtual learning will look like in the fall. These include:
1) More 'live' and synchronous learning opportunities with teachers each week.
2) Consolidating platforms to make it easier for families to know where to go to access the learning required.
3) Consistency of schedules and communication through the consolidation of platforms will make it easier to plan and predict the learning experiences.
4) Attendance and participation will be required and tracked for all students.
Attached to this email is a graphic that will let families know the high level expectations for a schedule of learning. Please take a few minutes to look at these and know that more specific schedules for grade levels will be shared once they are completed.
We have had a good response so far to the DCPS technology survey but we want to hear from everyone! Even if you have technology, please take 2 minutes to fill out the survey with DCPS - they started sharing that information with the school so we can help reach out to families who have not year completed it. It can be found here: tech Survey
We miss our students very much and cannot wait to 'see' them in the near future!
DCPS Schools remain closed to normal business at this time and teachers are on leave so if you need anything from the school, here are the best contacts to use:

Updates and Information
On Saturday, July 25 the Miner Mutual Aid Network held its first Community Table event. Miner volunteers set up distribution of children’s books and toys; masks, gloves, cleaning supplies and other household items; school supplies; and non-perishable food boxes. Over 70 members of the community were on hand to receive support.
The Miner Mutual Aid Action Team is grateful for the Ward 6 Mutual Aid Network and Serve Your City for assistance with the event and for providing food, and thanks all volunteers for helping to make the day a success. Planning has begun on an August event and we will provide details when we have them.
If you are interested in offering support or are in need of assistance, please complete the Mutual Aid intake form found here.
If you are aware of employment opportunities, we ask that you also complete this short form.
In solidarity,
The Miner Mutual Aid Network

Get excited! Miner parents and guardians have the opportunity to enroll in FREE afterschool programming with The Fishing School (TFS) for the coming school year. This highly engaging, academic and life-skills program is a great opportunity for our students, and they are fully equipped for in person, virtual, or hybrid lessons and activities to meet Miner's needs for the 2020-2021 school year. If you are interested in daily, interactive, and educational afterschool lessons and activities for your child, enroll them at fishingschool.org/enrollment or visit fishingschool.org to learn more.
