Week 17 of 37 Weeks
How is our 1st semester almost coming to an end! It has been such a pleasure getting to see your students grow from when they first started school in July to the confident teens they are today.
Progress Report 5 was made viewable on Thursday December 5. If your teen had grades below an 80, don't worry they have 8 days to get those grades up! We will have another Friday Night Academy for homework assistance. They can still do it! If your teen has had poor attendance, they have 10 days to have great attendance. That is the beauty that we can always be better than we were before.
See you tomorrow DV! Let's apply ourselves and put in the work!
One Family, One Destiny (OFOD)
Big Bad Blue!
How can you help your teen have a successful year?
1. Help your teen use their time wisely. Teens need to be taught how to schedule their time wisely. Do they have a designated time to do their homework? Do they have their materials ready to go in the mornings? Please make sure that chromebooks are charged the night before.
2. Make attendance a priority. Attendance is TRULY the #1 factor for success in school. The first bell rings at 8:20 a.m. Students are tardy at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast is free for all students and is served from 7:45 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. As I tell students, you miss a day, you miss a lot! (8 classes and assignments 😱).
3. Get organized. Our students need to plan on how they will manage their 8 classes. Help your teen get organized, yes this includes the materials in their backpack.
4. Help your teen stay on track. Encourge your child to write down their assignments, test dates and anything else they need to remember. Use this newsletter together. Talk about the events and information you find here.
5. Ask for help- Del Valle middle teachers and staff our here to help you and our teens. Encourage your teen to ask for help. One of the best things to teach our teens is to be an advocate for their needs.
6. Be involved- Regularly check in with your teen on how they are doing. Sit together and log into the home access center to review grades and assignments. Reach out to your child's teacher for questions or assistance.
7. Monitor homework.
Our newsletter below let's you know what your teen is learning in Reading/Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Our teens still need our help in managing homework and helping them be responsible for keeping track of their work and completing it. Our 6th grade students have gone from one teacher to 8 teachers. Even though they are older, they still need our help.
8. Participation- Help you teen learn that they need to participate in class. All they need to do is tell their teacher "I need help". When our teens learn to ask questions, they will learn more and they will get better grades. Friday Night Academy is also available on Friday's for homework assistance or any question in assignments.
9. Monitor your teen's progress.
Check the home access center regularly to see how your child is doing on school work, tests and grades. Talk to your teen about their classes. In this newsletter is the information on what they are learning for the week. Talking about the classes together and helping our teens about what is happening in school will strengthen their learning.
10. Help with your teen's self esteem-
During this time in their growth, teens care very much about what their peers think of them. Have conversations about positive self-image and your families values. Support you child with what they are good at and encourage them to try new things! Talking with your teen about what's happening in school builds healthy teens!
11. Technology-
Help our teens be smart with their technology. Check in on how your teen is using social media apps such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and messaging. Our students are trained on appropriate and inapproptiate use of technology. It is important that cell phone time is limited. Also, please help us by not texting your teen during the day, as we encourage a Away For the Day cell phone policy so they can focus on their learning.
