Cougar Dance Team
Congratulations to our Cougar Dance Team for qualifying for the MSHSL Dance Team State Tournament for their fourth year in a row! CDT placed 3rd in the South Suburban Conference for both Kick and Jazz and performed their best routines of the season on the Target Center floor on Feb. 16 -17, 2024 at State. Congratulations on placing 9th in Jazz and 8th in Kick.

LSHS Alpine Ski Teams
Congratulations to the LSHS Alpine Ski Teams for competing in the Junior Varsity Championships earlier in February. The girls team finished 4th overall led by Molly Ann Yoho (10th grade) who finished with a Personal Best (PB) of the season of 6th place followed by Darby Schreiner (9th grade) who also finished with a PB of 10th place. The boys team finished in 3rd place overall led by Mason Miller (9th grade) who had his PB finish of the season with 2nd place followed by Chase Pangburn (11th grade) who had his PB finish of 7th place. Way to go Cougars!
Alpine State Tournament
Congratulations to Olivia Murphy (11th), Brenna Peltz (9th) & Jack Olson (10th) who skied at the MSHSL Alpine Ski State Meet at Giants Ridge on Tuesday, Feb 13th. Olivia finished 21st and Brenna finished 34th of 87 racers, and Jack Olson finished 45th of 88th racers. Congratulations!
Alpine Ski High School Nationals
Congratulations to Olivia Murphy, 11th grade, for qualifying for the Western Nationals High School Alpine Championship races which will take place at Mammoth Mountain, California March 12-14. Skiers qualified at their Section races in early February, and the top 12 skiers in Minnesota were selected to participate. Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) sent the first-ever Team Minnesota to the Western High School Nationals Championships at Mount Hood Ski Bowl in Oregon last year, and Team Minnesota placed second for the girls team, second for boys team, and second in boys and girls teams combined. Way to go Liv!!
LSHS Girls Gymnastics: First State Team Title in Program History!
The Lakeville South Cougars won their first team state championship in program history. The Cougars, who earned top honors in every event, finished with a final score of 147.400. Lakeville South put up a 37.475 on vault and a 36.150 on uneven bars. They finished with a 37.075 on the balance beam and a 36.700 in the floor exercise.
Piper Keith led Lakeville South on the vault (9.55), uneven bars (9.450) and balance beam (9.500). Piper Keith and Julia Olson both put up a 9.400 in the floor exercise.
Wrestling: A Trip to State for Bokman & Kelvie
Congratulations to Bo Bokman, 11th grade, and Mitchell Kelvie, 10th grade, for qualifying for the State Wrestling Meet. Bokman was the section champion and Kelvie finished as the section runner up. Bokman placed fourth (4th) in the MSHSL State Individual Wrestling Tournament. Congrats!

- Lakeville South Girls Basketball (#20) has reached the Section 1AAAA finals for the second straight season with back-to-back playoff wins. They opened with a 76-54 win over Farmington with five players in double figures. The Cougars edged Rochester Mayo 58-57 in Saturday's semifinal, and final game at South. The final is a showdown with Lakeville North is on Friday, March 8 at Rochester Civic Center at 6:00 PM. Good luck Cougars!
- No. 14 Boys Basketball dropped their regular season home finale last Monday 108-106 in double overtime against Prior Lake. Ryan Johnson scored 29 for the Cougars. South finished the season with a 62-56 win at Eastview. South is the third seed for the Section 1AAAA tournament starting Tuesday at home vs Mayo.

Quizbowl Team
Congrats to South's Quiz Bowl team. They finished out the season in strong fashion finishing in the Top 16 at the State Tournament!
South Robotics Team Advances to World Championships
On Feb. 16 and 17, Lakeville South High School’s First Tech Challenge (FTC) team, the Hackercats, competed at the FTC Raytheon State Championship in St. Paul, earning themselves a spot at the upcoming world championships.
Alongside their alliance partners, Edina and Eagan, the Hackercats earned a second top 10 highest world score at state. At their previous tournament on Jan. 27, they broke the state record twice, along with the national record.
Hackercats team members include Spencer Brennan (grade 12), Ryan Erickson (12), Alex Forcelle (12), Gabriel (Luke) Garso (12), Matthew Gliniecki (12), Caden Lind (11), Cian Martin (12), Taurin VanBellinger (9) and Ely Wickander (12). The team is coached by Lakeville South STEM teacher and Head FTC Robotics Coach Jackie Fleischhacker.
The Hackercats will be competing in the World Championship in Houston, Texas, from Apr. 17-20.
FTC is part of an international robotics program that includes more than 6,400 teams worldwide. Teams of students collaborate to design, build and program a robot that competes on a 12’ by 12’ field. FTC is designed to challenge students to think critically and widen their engineering knowledge and skills.
South Suburban Art Exhibition

Brain Bee
On Thursday, Feb. 14, Lakeville South High School senior AP Psychology student Casey O’Malley placed in the top 6 at the University of Minnesota’s Brain Bee competition. The Brain Bee is a neuroscience competition that fosters interest in neuroscience among high school students.
O’Malley made it to the third and final round held on the Minneapolis campus at the University of Minnesota. In addition to competing in the final rounds, state finalists had the opportunity to tour the university’s neuroscience research laboratories.
Winter Guard Competition
Lakeville South Bands hosted over 100 of the top jazz musicians in grades 7 - 10 and hundreds of winter guard performers from MN, WI and SD high schools and colleges. Lakeville South had six (6) performers, as part of Dean Sorenson's (U of MN Jazz Director) Big Band and all three (3) Lakeville Guards had their best performances of the year! Our guards were not rated as we were the host site. However, they received fantastic feedback as they prepared for their upcoming regional competition.
Encore
Encore participated in the FlyOver Festival this weekend. We had a blast! We got to work with Deke Sharon. Of the Sing Off and Pitch Perfect movies fame!
LSHS Science Olympiad Team
LSHS Science Olympiad Team had a great trip to State at Bethel University this weekend! Our Team got 9th overall, medaled in 3 events, and were top 10 in 9 events!
