5/6 SOCCER GAME WITH FAIRFIELD AT HOME
After just two practices SACs Grade 5/6 soccer team played Fairfield on Monday afternoon in an awesome back and forth match!! Students displayed great team spirit cheering for their teammates and sharing lots of positive comments. Players greeted fans before and after the game with high-fives…thanking everyone for being there to support them. It was a great first game and we look forward to many more this season—-including our next home game on Weds! Link to 4 Pictures.
HOME CROSS COUNTRY MEET
Georgia, SATEC (Town School), and Fairfield sent their athletes to compete with our team on Monday afternoon. Since we have the flattest and most boring cross country-course in the district, it was decided that we spice things up with an obstacle course. The goal was to offer a fun event that allowed all athletes of varying fitness to have a good time. The obstacles were as follows:
- Hay bale hurdles
- Hula hoop leap
- A short ball balancing task
- A climb and run along the ridge of wood chips near the big tree
- A crawling obstacle
- A balance beam walk
- Corn hole toss
- Orange cone zig-zag
- Hop scotch near the gaga pits
While some spectators and runners were baffled by the change in cross country format, most appeared to have a great time. Many thanks to all the teachers who came out to help run the meet and clean up afterwards.

YENEBIS DRIVE TO SCHOOL
Every morning, I'm up at four o'clock.
I brush my teeth, get dressed, and drag my sister Melanie to the car where Mami's waiting for us.
¡Se nos va hacer tarde! ¡Apurarse!
For the next two hours, we'll be in the car driving—past tamale vendors (my favorite part), through la linea (my least favorite part), and across the US border. That's how we get to school every day. This is our normal. ¡Vamos!
In a winning, sunny voice in a bright, friendly palette, debut author-illustrator Sendy Santamaria tells the story of one girl's commute—a commute Sendy herself made growing up as an American citizen living in Mexico. Yenebi's Drive to School takes readers on a trip to school that many will recognize as very similar to their own.
THE TREE OF HOPE
The true story of a beloved banyan tree and a community that fought to save it in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
On the tropical island of Puerto Rico, there was an ancient banyan tree. His enormous twisted trunk rose up beside the San Juan Gate. Long roots hung from his wide-spreading branches and his emerald, leafy crown greeted all who passed by. This beloved tree stood on the shore of the island for over a hundred years--until the fateful time when the biggest hurricane in Puerto Rico's history slammed into the island, devastating communities and uprooting that very tree.
This lushly illustrated and evocatively written picture book tells the story of the majestic jagüey blanco, one of the most beloved trees in the city of Old San Juan. Puerto Rican author Anna Orenstein-Cardona weaves an epic tale based on the true story of this bearded watchdog of the island, how the tree was impacted by Hurricane Maria, and how a group of people rallied together to save it. With gorgeous illustrations by Juan Manuel Moreno, this picture book serves as an account of the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria and the strength of the people who continue to rebuild to this day.
