I apologize for the delay of this message. However, since MCPS communicated a change in the school day schedule for the week, I have included it in this message:) Due to the cold weather, there will be additional two hour delays on Wednesday and Thursday. Important reminders for delayed openings:

1. School starts at 11:00. Doors open at 10:40- Car riders should arrive before 11:00 so they can be in class when the bell rings

2. Students have lunch, but no recess

3. No breakfast is available

Well, our Wildcats got another snow day. Not the kind that closes school - at least not yet – it is Sunday evening as I write this, in my house divided with two Ravens fans and 1 Bills fan (I am neutral in this scenario)!

While the weather may have impacted the ability to volunteer physically, I hope you found another way to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who encouraged performing good deeds in the community. Students can also learn about his work through watching, reading, and listening to some of his works.

We are looking forward to seeing many of our Wildcat families at Multicultural Night this Friday, January 24! Doors open at 6pm and the event runs through 8pm. Come view beautiful and informative displays, sample tasty treats from around the world, and celebrate the rich and diverse culture that makes Wilson Wims such a special place. This year’s fashion show is sure to impress, and we can’t wait to see our students in their traditional dress. Finally, don’t forget to support the Wildcat Concession Stand with pizza available, while supplies last!

Finally, it’s time for the Yearbook Cover Contest! See details below on how your student could get their drawing featured on the cover of our 2024-25 Wims yearbook.

2024-25 School Year

Multicultural Night is a special evening where we celebrate our diverse Wildcat Community through cultural enlightenment including foods, art, artifacts, and a fabulous fashion show! Please join us in the APR from 6-8 pm for a wonderful, around-the-world experience. Attendance is free and there is no RSVP required. The PTA will host a concession stand with candy, snacks, and drinks. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Volunteers are still needed for this event, particularly to help coordinate the students participating in the fashion show. Please sign up here to volunteer! The PTA is proud to once again be able to support our teacher-led Valentine’s Day festivities with a special treat! Volunteers are needed to stuff over 450 goodie bags on February 5th at the school. Please note there are volunteer spots for students who wish to earn SSL hours as well as adults. Please only sign up in the designated areas - adult supervision is important for this activity! Our Yearbook Committee needs your help! Please share your photos from our events - Movie Night, Fun Run, PRIDE Assemblies, and more. We would also love your first day of school photos, photos of our patrols, and getting to & from school each day. Our Lifetouch upload link is now live. Simply go to this link to upload and you just might see your photos featured in the yearbook! Please remember to TAG when uploading photos, as this will make it easier for our committee to sort. If you are not sure which tag to use, just label the picture with the student’s grade level/ teacher. Thank you in advance for contributing to our Wims yearbook!

Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders! Show your artistic abilities with a chance for your art to be featured on the front or back cover of the 2024-25 Wims yearbook! Submissions should be bright and colorful, demonstrating our Wims P.R.I.D.E. or school motto “Together We Will,” and incorporate our school colors (navy blue/ lime green/ white). Original art only will be accepted - no photos or stock files - on an 8.5 x 11 sheet in “portrait” orientation. Submissions are due in the front office by March 1 to be considered. All submissions will be displayed in the yearbook. Please be sure to check spelling and grammar. Please contact the Yearbook Committee at yearbook@wwespta.org with any questions.

Save-the-date for the S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Expo! Sixty-five percent of today’s students will find themselves working in careers that do not exist yet. We believe in providing students with opportunities through STEAM to see themselves as innovators and changemakers who can design solutions for issues they care about. Our STEAM Expo is a way for our students to follow their curiosity and learn about the world around them through STEAM. If your student is interested in participating, please register here. Space is limited with at least 25 reserved slots for grades K-2. Early registration is encouraged. Volunteers are needed to make the Expo a success - please sign up here to volunteer. Committee members are also needed, so if you would like to play a larger role in this important event, please reach out to the S.T.E.A.M. Committee.
