Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Middle Community,
Well, here it is--the last newsletter of the school year. This week has been a whirlwind, but I have to say, the kids have been great. Between trips, finishing projects and doing presentations, this week has flown. Tonight we have the 8th Grade Dance, which is always a special night. The cafeteria is transformed, the DJ is ready and the students will all look amazing. It's a great culmination of the 8th grade year.
Next week we have 8th grade promotion on June 10th, and the two tickets for each family have been mailed home. If you did not receive them please email Ms. Correa at vcorrea@crec.org. The ceremony for 8A is at 8:15 am and the ceremony for 8B is at 10:15 am. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes earlier or parking will be an issue. You may park along the driveway and along the access road. If you bring balloons we will label them and hold them until after the ceremony. There will be opportunities for picture taking after each ceremony. This is the last day for 8th grade students.
For 7th and 7th grade students, the last is June 11th and it is a half day. The kids will participate in Step Up Day, where they will meet the next grade level teachers and learn about next years expectations. They will then have a chance to sign yearbooks and celebrate the end of the year with their friends. The final report cards and mindset reports will be emailed home that day as well.
Since this is the last newsletter I do want to thank you all for your support this year, and for trusting us to take care of your child. We have great kids here, on even their worst days! We couldn't do what we do without your support.
Enjoy the weekend,
Jill Wnuk Wojtyna
THE READING GAMES
Last Friday, we celebrated the winners of this year’s 6th-grade Reading Games. The winners enjoyed an outdoor party featuring food and games, along with several raffle prizes. This year, we hosted the largest group of winners in the history of the games!
Congratulations to Team 6A on their amazing victory! These students crushed it by reading consistently, maintaining top-notch comprehension scores, and earning over 250 bonus points by diving into The Hunger Games series and Nutmeg nominees. Their dedication paid off!
A huge shoutout to the reading superstar, Charles Nablo, who devoured all four books from The Hunger Games series and scored 100% comprehension on every AR quiz—incredible! We also want to celebrate Mariam Alassani and Rishwanth Indrakumar for their fantastic contributions to Team 6A's win, along with Rishika Addanki, who was presented with an award for being the most improved reader!
Team 6B brought their A-game too! Reading champions Kaitlyn Smith (142 points) and Jose Robles (123 points) led their team with amazing spirit. Many students on both teams demonstrated incredible focus and accumulated impressive point totals. The Reading Games are all about keeping that reading momentum going during the spring slump—and wow, I'm blown away yet again by everyone's energy and participation! I often get a little teary-eyed looking at the reading reports (FOR A GOOD REASON).
Thanks to all the team teachers and staff for your support, especially Ms. Peace and Ms. Phelan for keeping their "tributes" fired up! Major props to our fantastic LIT teachers, Ms. Lattarulo and Ms. Lindsay, for cheering on both teams throughout the Games.
Thank you for supporting these amazing scholars throughout the year, and HAPPY READING, EVERYONE!!

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”
