A Message from our Counselor
On Wednesday, we conducted our second Character Trait of the Month assembly. This assembly marked the first occasion for us to honor ambassadors of the month and invite their families to celebrate with our school. Congratulations to the Engaged Learning Ambassadors of September! Additionally, we introduced October’s Character Trait of the Month: Respect. Fifth graders from Ms. Reisigner and Mrs. Conrad’s class introduced respect alongside fourth graders from Mr. Ramos’s class. Throughout the month of October, students will have the opportunity to develop skills and gain insights into the importance of respecting themselves, others, and the community. Thank you to PAC for their assistance in creating bulletin boards, capturing photos, and helping our staff promote this exciting initiative!
-Sydney Allred, School Counselor
Emergency Drills
Lock Down Drills
At the Sherwood School District, we know you entrust your children to us each day and we do not take that responsibility lightly. The District has worked diligently over the years to establish comprehensive safety protocols and emergency procedures in order to help keep our students and staff safe -- on a daily basis, and in the unlikely event of an emergency.
During the past few weeks, we have been educating our students about emergency procedures. During the next couple of weeks, we will be conducting district-wide emergency drills in order to give our students and staff an opportunity to practice what they know. We have taken great care to make sure our conversations about this topic are age appropriate, and we want you to be aware of our drills so you can visit with your children at home, too.
On Monday, October 14th, Hawks View will be practicing a Lock Down Drill at 8:30 am. Other district administrators, and possibly the Sherwood Police, will be on-site to observe and provide feedback for our drill. If you are around our campus during the time of our drill, please do not be alarmed by the increased police or admin presence.
If you arrive during a drill, you will not be allowed to enter and students will not be allowed to exit until the drill concludes. Please plan ahead if you need to drop off or pick up your student during the day of a drill.
For more information about our district’s emergency preparedness and to learn how you can be best prepared in the event of an emergency, please visit our webpage link here.
Great Oregon ShakeOut Earthquake Drills- October 17
The annual Great Oregon ShakeOut is part of an international safety preparedness program, where millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills on the same day. This year’s earthquake drills will be held on October 17, and for all of Oregon will be held at 10:17 am. All schools and district facilities will participate in this annual drill, and this is the first of two earthquake drills that will be practiced by our locations this year.

National School Lunch Week, October 14th-18th
National School Lunch Week celebrates the importance of a nutritious school lunch in fueling students for success. In the 2023-2024 School Year alone, the SSD Nutrition Team served over 217,000 meals to our students. That is a lot of meals!
The Nutrition Team is celebrating by hosting a raffle contest. Next week, each student participating in School Lunch will receive a raffle entry (limit one entry per day). On Friday, we will announce the winner of this year’s prize, a pair of wireless Mandalorian headphones (courtesy of our industry partners).
Happy National School Lunch Week!

Scholastic Book Fair ~ October 24-31
We still have a few volunteer spots available! All volunteers must have a cleared background check prior to volunteering.
The eWallet link is now available. Rather than sending cash in with your student and risking it getting lost, the eWallet is a great way to go! Leftover funds can be used to shop online with Scholastic, or to fund and eWallet for a future Book Fair. For more Book Fair information, visit the Book Fair Homepage.
Would your child like to help build his/her classroom library? Here’s how they can help with loose change in the days leading up to the book fair: One for Books!!!
The book fair will be open for family shopping during conferences.
