Students Enjoy the Extreme Sled Dog Race Start
Students were excited to board the bus and take a field trip all together to the start of the Extreme Sled Dog Race! They met the mushers and dogs in the pit prior to the race and lined the fences for the start of the race, cheering on the competitors. When some of the students got to see what the dogs were eating prior to the race, there were some scrunched up faces that clearly said, Yuk!" It was quite the experience for our students! A fun day was had by all!
Family Group Lesson Focuses on Perseverance!
Family Groups came together after the assembly to kick off the next character trait and theme focus, Perseverance! The lesson centered on the book "Akiak: A Tale From the Iditarod." They heard the tale of a sled dog named, Akiak, and how he did not want to give up during the Iditarod race, 1,151 miles of wind, snow, and rugged trail, from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. Students engaged in activities after reading the book. Older students mentored younger students and served as student leaders.
Pride Assembly Celebrates Students!
The January 31st Pride Assembly once again gathered students together and celebrated their learning and growth. Students showed their pride, cheered, sang, and received awards for perfect attendance and efforts with the monthly theme of Welcoming and Acceptance. The new theme, Perseverance, was kicked off at the assembly.
