American Education Week
We had another wonderful week here at LES. Thank you to those that were able to join us this week for American Education week. We enjoyed seeing our visitors engage in activities with our Lions throughout the building.
Education Support Professionals Day
We also celebrated Education Support Professionals Day this week! We want to thank our paraeducators, student assistants, health assistant, secretaries, cafeteria/recess staff, custodial team, and temporary employees for all they do to support the students at Lisbon Elementary. They are an integral part in promoting student achievement and safety as well as keeping our school running smoothly.
Next Week's Schedule
We want to remind you that next week's schedule is very different due to parent/teacher conferences. Monday and Tuesday are both 3-hour early dismissals (12:45pm) and Wednesday through Friday there is no school for students.
This is the final Lisbon Lines newsletter until December 6.
Happy Thanksgiving to all our Lisbon Families
As we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, we want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: We are thankful for our students who come to school every day ready and eager to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the support of all our parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. We are thankful for the Lisbon teachers, assistants, health assistants, bus drivers, secretaries, nurses, lunch and recess staff, support staff, and therapists who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart. We are also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school.
Every day we see dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. Most importantly, we are thankful for the parents that have kept the faith in us. They continue to share their most valuable possession with us and work hard and advocate to be a partner in their children’s education, safety and well-being. For this, we are ever so thankful.
We would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy, and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Mrs. Anoff and Mr. Scobie

Ravens Play60 Challenge
LES will be participating in the Baltimore Ravens Play60 Challenge. The challenge will run from December 2nd through December 15th. The goal of the challenge is to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Your minutes can include PE class, recess, and any after school activity. A log will be sent home for you to track your daily activity minutes. A parent or guardian must sign the log before you return it to your homeroom teacher.
If you turn in a form by December 17th, your name will be entered into a raffle to win Ravens swag (water bottles, towels, lanyards, jump rope, headbands, and little footballs). In addition, four students will be chosen to represent our school as Ravens Play60 Challenge ambassadors. Ambassadors will have the chance to win Ravens tickets for themselves and one adult.
We look forward to hearing about all the ways you are choosing to be active each day!
Golden Lion Week
From December 9th-13th, the Lisbon Community will be celebrating Golden Lion Week!
Each day, students who choose to display the days’ desired behaviors, will have the opportunity to earn golden coupons. Each earned golden coupon will be placed in a grade level bucket. At the end of the day, 5 students, from each grade level, will be awarded a Golden Lion Award, get their picture taken, and be displayed on one of the hallway bulletin boards. Students will also receive a Golden Lion swag necklace to keep! Families are encouraged to remind their students of each days’ desired behaviors.
We look forward to congratulating all of our Golden Lions!
Information Worth Repeating
CogAT Testing for All 3rd Graders
This year, the Howard County Public School System will be administering the Cognitive
Abilities Test (CogAT) to all students in grade 3. The CogAT is a group-administered abilities test that measures students’ reasoning abilities, which they develop through in-school and out-of-school experiences. It is not designed to test a student’s academic achievement, but their potential.
All students in Grade 3 will participate in the testing. The CogAT will be administered on Wednesday, December 4th, Thursday, December 5th, and Friday, December 6th. No special preparation is required. Just send your child to school ready to learn as you do daily.
The Gifted and Talented Education Program will use the data from the CogAT as one criterion for placement into fourth grade Gifted/Talented mathematics classes and middle school Gifted/Talented content classes. Students’ individual scores will be reported to parents in late February/early March.
