Superintendent Update
Dear Nashoba Community,
This week, I am excited to share a significant milestone in our Nashoba Regional High School Building Project. In September, all three of our communities came together in support of the NRHS Building Project, which showcased the values and priorities of each of our towns. This unified support was crucial, and five years after the building project began, it was fully passed. Since then, we have been hard at work developing and finalizing design plans.
On June 7th, 2024, we will officially break ground on the new Nashoba Regional High School. To ensure that everyone can celebrate this milestone, we are collaborating closely with our community public access stations to televise and post the officially groundbreaking ceremony. This is a pivotal moment that will shape the future of not only our highschool, but also our community as a whole. We hope that you will join us virtually!
Stay tuned for additional details. We will continue to provide community updates on the NRHS Building Project through The Common, The NRHS Building Project website, and scheduled School Building Committee meetings.
We are grateful for your support, and look forward to continuing our collaboration as we move forward through the building phase.
Peace,
Kirk Downing

InternationalFest 2024, A Big Turnout... A Big Success
Cultural pride and curiosity fueled the energy at the second annual InternationalFest at NRHS this past Saturday. District families from 20 different countries and traditions displayed cultural artifacts and information of interest, and -- most popular of all -- shared delicious foods from their homes of origin. Visitors to InternationalFest received a “passport” at the door and were able to visit tables (and their hosts) featuring Korea, Kenya, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Pakistan, France, Jamaica, India, Brazil, Taiwan, Romania, Uruguay, Haiti, Ireland, Black America, Germany, Ecuador, Scandinavia, and Austria. Visitors had opportunities to have their henna done, to learn cultural games ranging from Briscola (an Italian risk-taking card game) to Balap Kelereng (an Indonesian marble-race), to color an Indian rangoli (a patterned Hindu design meant to welcome good luck), and to hear international music. Many student and family hosts wore traditional garments from their root cultures, as well. The afternoon was filled with good spirits, fascinating conversations and sharing, and happy tastebuds! Hosted by the NRHS International Club, this event is evolving into an annual tradition -- so if you missed it this year, be sure to watch for publicity about it next spring!
Great Road Podcast, Episode 6
Check out our latest podcast episode featuring the Students for Social Justice Club (SSJ) at NRHS. Formed two years ago by students in the NRHS Facing History class, SSJ is dedicated to exploring local, national, and global social justice issues. Their mission is clear: to inform others about these issues and to have a positive impact on our community.
Rooted in building awareness and affecting change, SSJ aims to unite the NRHS school community to make a difference in the wider world, both locally and globally. In this episode, you'll hear from the students themselves who are using their voices to create change. The Students for Social Justice Club provides a platform for courageous conversations that build awareness and understanding, turn ideas into action, and create opportunities to serve and make change beyond NRHS.
