Our Month of Learning
English Language Arts
Skills
We are continuing our learning in Skills 2 this month. We are deepening our understanding of 5 vowel sound spelling correspondences:
-/ee/ spelled 'ee' as in seed
-/ae/ spelled 'a_e' as in cake
-/ie/ spelled 'i_e' as in line
-/oe/ spelled 'o_e' as in hope
-/ue/ spelled 'u_e' as in cube.
We will continue to practice reading decodable stories in our readers and answering questions with complete sentences using accurate conventions for capitalization and punctuation.
Knowledge
We will conclude our learning of Knowledge 3 Similar Stories, Different Lands at the beginning of the month before transitioning into Knowledge 4: Early World Civilizations. Students will study Mesopotamia and Egypt. They will explore the fundamental features of civilizations, including the development of farming, the establishments of cities and government, and the creation of practices such as writing and religion.
Math
Social Studies
We will be focusing on history where we will examine differences between past and present, and compare and contrast things/people from past and present time.
Leader in Me
At Home Learning
- Continue with tying shoes practice.
- November is a great time to reflect on what we value and treasure most. Have students think about and share the things they are thankful for. They can also draw pictures.
- Have fun on a nature walk. Encourage students to compare how it looks and feels outside to a few months ago during summer and what they see in the sky (this directly ties in with what we recently learned in science about the seasons and the sun and moon).
- Continue to read and write with students, focusing on capital letters, finger spaces, and punctuation.
