Hello Ivy Hill Families!
Our Multicultural Fair was held on Thursday night! What a special night this is for everyone! It is so impressive to see the traditional clothing, hear the music and taste the food from all the homelands of our Ivy Hill students!
This will be an exciting week at Ivy Hill! It's Valentine's Day and our parties will be happening on Thursday, February 13th. See the schedule below to know when your child's class will be having their party. Please remember that any Parent Volunteers will need to be cleared through our PTA committee members.
Music will fill the halls on Tuesday and Wednesday this week! The 2nd grade students along with their teachers, Mr. Szuwald & Ms. Conomikes will perform their show for parents on Tuesday night at 6:30 and Mr. Berry's 5th grade Band students will perform along with the 5th graders from Olive Elementary on Wednesday night at Thomas Middle School.
Our Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Friday, February 14th. If you haven't signed up for a conference, please notify your child's teacher. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON FRIDAY!
Along with our PTA, we'll hold our annual Pack the Piggies Fundraiser beginning on February 17th - 21st. Keep reading to learn more about the great college scholarships available to our students with help from this fundraiser.
Our Digital Citizenship Week was a big success - the students enjoyed learning about different ways to be kind on line and the Dress Up Week was a huge hit - especially Pajama Day on a Monday!!
Registration for the 2025-2026 school year opened on Wednesday, January 15th. If you have any neighbors with Kindergarten age children or are new to the Ivy Hill area, please direct them to the district website sd25.org. This registration is for NEW students only, returning Ivy Hill students will register later in the spring.
We are seeing more and more students coming to school without appropriate snow gear. Please remember that our students go outside to play unless the wind chill is below 0 degrees. They cannot play in the snow unless they have snow pants, coat, hat and gloves. Even if they don't want to play in the snow, the snow gear helps to keep them warm on these very cold days! Please pack a shopping bag with their snow gear and send it to school each day. Remember to include gym shoes on their gym days.
It's always helpful to have a set of dry clothes in your child's backpack - especially in the snowy weather!
We are so fortunate to have a wonderful PTA (Parent/Teacher Association) here at Ivy Hill. Please consider joining their program and participating in all the great activities they bring to our students! Check out their weekly newsletter The PTA Happenings!
Please read through this newsletter as there is a lot of important information for you!
Stay safe, stay kind, and stay courageous!

PACK THE PIGGIES FUNDRAISER FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Pack the Piggies Fundraiser!!
The Arlington Heights Council of PTA’s (AHC-PTA) funds $15k annually in scholarships for former D25 graduating seniors in D214. This year, the AHC-PTA will be running its 4th “Pack the Piggies” fundraiser across the district to raise money for these scholarships.
The contest begins February 17th and goes through February 21st, which gives us 5 days to pack our piggy and reach our goal! Each district school’s goal is to raise $1 per student. Our school's goal is $583! To help reach our goal, students can bring in coins, cash, or checks (made out to the AHC-PTA) to help pack our piggy! Let’s have some fun for a great cause starting February 17-21!
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES - FEBRUARY 14TH - NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS
Our Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Friday, 14th. There is no school for students that day. The conferences are 10 minutes long so we'd like to ask that you be ON TIME for your conference. If you have more to discuss, please contact your child's teacher.
Digital Citizenship Week
The students loved the Digital Citizenship tips that they learned this week. If you'd like to see some of what they learned, please check out this link.
2nd GRADE BROOKFIELD ZOO FUNDRAISER
Our 2nd grade classes will be taking their annual trip to Brookfield Zoo in May! To help the students reduce the cost of the field trip, they will be holding a fundraiser on Tuesday night, February 25th at Portillo's on Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove. Please join us from 5:00 - 8:00 PM for dinner - a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Ivy Hill's 2nd grade students!
A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE, MRS. HEIN
February is National Heart Month
Heart month is a great time to understand the importance of a healthy heart and learn some actions you can take to live a healthy life. Some of those steps could include:
1) Improve eating habits. Consider a family trip to the grocery store to find some heart-healthy foods.
2) Visit your dentist on a regular basis. Did you know healthy teeth and gums can prevent heart disease?
3) Staying active is vital to a healthy heart. Take a family walk or hike, or plan a family activity that incorporates exercise.
4). Learn a new heart-healthy recipe. Invite the whole family to get involved in planning and cooking the meal.
5). Try a new fruit or vegetable every week. You may find new favorites!
6) Stress management improves our heart health. Consider an evening of family meditation or yoga.
7). Getting regular check-ups is a great way to keep hearts healthy. Is it time for your check-up?
While it’s fantastic to celebrate Valentine’s Day this month, don’t forget to make time to celebrate your heart this month. Focus on showing yourself some love by making a commitment to honor your health and the health of your loved ones!
5th Grade Camp Edwards Fundraiser
Our 5th grade students will take their annual trip to Camp Edwards on May 22nd! This is an expensive trip so to help defer the costs, we will hold a fundraiser at Garibaldi's on Wednesday, March 19th from 10:00 am- 9:00pm. 20% of sales will be returned to Ivy Hill students.
Garibaldi's has fabulous pizza, sandwiches and salads - just to name a few!! Join us to help 5th grade get to Camp Edwards!
GYM SHOES FOR GYM CLASS
As the weather continues to get colder, please remind your child to pack extra clean gym shoes. For their safety, students should NOT be wearing boots, slippers, crocs or sandals to PE class. Thank you for your partnership!

OUTDOOR GYM AND RECESS - WINTER PROCEDURES
According to the Parent/Student Handbook:
It is our practice to have the children go outside as much as possible during recess , even in the winter. The students do not go outside if it is raining or if the wind chill is below zero. Parents are asked to dress children in appropriate outerwear for the weather conditions, so that students may comfortably take advantage of outside recreational play. Please put names on all outdoor clothing, including boots.
THANK YOU FOR GETTING YOUR STUDENT TO SCHOOL ON TIME!
SEND A CHANGE OF CLOTHES IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK
Anything can happen during the school day - no matter the age of your child! From being caught in the rain, to a failed science experience, things happen! Please pack a change of clothes in each child's backpack for them in keep in case of a "wardrobe malfunction"!
Be sure that all clothing items are marked clearly with your child's name.
DROPPING OFF LATE ITEMS
We have student messengers that deliver late items every morning. To ensure your late items reach your student, try to have them in the office by 9:15. We request that you include your child's first and last name and their teacher's name on each item. We do have post it notes here in the office. Once it is marked with your child's first and last name, please place the item on the colorful bench! AHSD25 SCHOOL CALENDAR 2024-2025
Please print a copy of the calendar so that you will know when our holidays occur!
FOOD SERVICES AT IVY HILL
All students at Ivy Hill will be given a Lunch Card that will be remain at school. The lunch card acts like a debit card - each time a student purchases a meal, that amount is deducted from their account.
AHSD25 Food & Nutrition Services Department uses the Mealtime Online Payment System for families to conveniently deposit money and monitor their student(s) lunch account balance.
If you prefer, you can send cash or a check (please make out checks to AHSD25 and write your child's name in the memo). At elementary schools, money is turned into the school office.
We encourage all families to use the mealtime payment system to monitor their child’s balance. Even if you choose to pay for meals with cash/check, you can monitor your students' account online. Once you have established an account for your child, please check the box to have an email reminder sent to you when your balance is low.
You will need your child's Student ID to set up an account - that number is located on the Teacher letter you received on 8/22. Or, call the school office for help.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MENUS
Elementary School Menus can be found here. The cost is $3.25.
Elementary Breakfast Menus can be found here. The cost is $1.75. Breakfast can be purchased from 8:45am - 9:05am. Please have your child to the the Lunch Window as soon as they arrive at school.
