Principal's Message
Dear RMS Families,
I hope this message finds you well!
There’s a lot happening at RMS as we move through week six of semester 2.
Parents at Roosevelt (PAR) is meeting this Thursday at 6pm in the RMS library. PAR will be discussing and voting on becoming a 501(c)(3) organization. The presentation linked here will be helpful to review in advance of the meeting. Immediately following the PAR meeting is our third RMS Parent Education Night of the year is this Thursday, 3/13 at 6:30pm. Dr. Joe Sage, a local pediatrician with a lifestyle and well being medicine practice, will be at RMS discussing elements of well being, ways to prevent anxiety and depression, and how to support middle schoolers in leading a life they feel is satisfying. We hope you’ll join us for both meetings either in person in the RMS library or by tuning in virtually via Google Meet at this link: meet.google.com/jgg-afgt-tju. This is an updated Google Meet link to what was previously sent out. Our apologies for any confusion.
This week culminates in our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Assembly on Friday during an extended House period. This year, students have chosen the theme, “we are all human.” As with our prior MLK, Jr assemblies, student leaders are taking the lead in planning and preparing for the assembly.
Track season is underway! It’s great to see the enthusiasm both among students and coaches. Already we have over 150 students signed up, which is fantastic! With so many student athletes participating, we are able to hire another assistant coach. If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, please encourage them to apply at this link. RMS has an excellent coaching team this year… Head Coach Kai Kelley and Assistant Coaches Seth Cooper, Kate Richards, Keyshawn Jackson, and Tod Satterthwaite. It’s shaping up to be a great season!
It’s hard to believe we are already beginning the process of planning for next year. This week on Monday, 8th graders had a visit from SEHS counselors in their science class, and last week, RMS school counselor Alma Mendoza, visited 8th grade classes to prepare students for the visit. While we did reach out to 8th grade families separately, I do want to highlight two important upcoming activities:
April 3: South Eugene High School will host an Incoming 9th Grade Parent Information Night from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm. No registration is required.
April 7: South Eugene High School’s 9th grade counseling team will go over forecasting details with all 8th graders in their science class. Students will bring home information about forecasting to share with parents/guardians.
Stay tuned for more information about 9th grade transition activities.
Next week, as we lead up to Spring Break, the week ends with the RMS Talent Show at the end of the school day. It’s always amazing to see students, and sometimes staff, showcasing their many talents.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Mike Yocum
Interim Principal
Roosevelt Middle School

Registration
The District has decided to transition to a new registration platform for the 24-25 school year! FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time. You may review your data at any time to verify it is current.
- Please register at: https://eugene-or.finalforms.com/ and follow the prompts to create your account, create your students and sign your forms.
- Pay the $100 participation fee separately through SchoolPay which is linked here. Or please reach out about the track participation waivers! We do not want fees to get in the way of anyone participating.
- Eugene 4J school district requires OSAA Sports Physicals (attached) to be on file dated after 5/16/2023 in order for all students to participate at practice and/or meets.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions, stier_s@4j.lane.edu
Hope to see you out at the meets!
