Principal's Message
Our school wide community service day last Tuesday was incredible. We had 725 students serve at 43 different locations throughout the metro. Students returned to the building with big smiles and lots of stories. It sounds like everyone had a great time while making a difference! We were greeted by our Father's Club with a sweet treat from Andies Frozen Custard which was a fun way to top off the morning!
It was great seeing so many of our families at conferences last week. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us! We've had a great first quarter at PRT and we are looking forward to quarter two.
Have a wonderful Sunday, Huskies!

INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES
Sports Recap
This week, our football teams wrapped up their seasons with two hard-fought games. The 7th-grade team battled in a high-scoring shootout but came up short, falling 50-32 to Summit Trail. The 8th-grade team played an intense game, taking California Trail to four overtimes before narrowly losing 12-6 in a thriller. Congratulations to all teams on a great season!

Language Matters Student Workshops - Oct. 28
Kathleen Smith, the Director of Culture and Belonging for Olathe Public Schools will be bringing Olathe High School student leaders to Prairie Trail Middle School on Monday, October 28 to share a Straight Talk about Inappropriate Language Workshop with our students. All three grade levels will participate in a grade level workshop on October 28.
Prairie Trail is the fourth middle school in the district to engage in this workshop, and we are excited for this opportunity for our students! The workshop is geared to teach students to be a world changer by understanding that their words matter and have impact on others. Students will learn what it is to be kind to one another and that we must build each other up with kindness and understanding.
At the middle level, students are navigating outside influences including what they hear on social media, in music and from other peers. They are figuring out who they are and working to fit in with their classmates. We all know middle school is a challenging time. Through this workshop, students will learn how inappropriate language including name calling, derogatory remarks and slurs can have an impact on others. The Olathe Code of Student Conduct will be discussed, and the guiding principles of honesty, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness will be reviewed.
It just takes one person to use their voice or actions for positive change to happen. We hope that through this presentation, all students will gain the tools to speak up and support one another for our continued positive school culture at Prairie Trail Middle School.

Xello Lessons Coming up in October
6th grade students will be taking assessments to learn about the different ways in which we process information the beginning of October. You can soon ask your student if they are a tactile, visual, or auditory learner and ways in which they can study more effectively based upon their results! They will also take a Matchmaker survey and saved careers that were interesting to them. They will look at education, training, salaries, and schools that offer those degree programs.
7th grade students will be looking at their Matchmaker survey results next week. They will also be completing their personality style survey and reflecting upon careers that match their values and strengths.
8th graders completed their career matches and have saved careers that are interesting to them.
They started to explore pathways, education and training, and programs of study that fit their interests.
This will help them when looking into all the various 21st Century Academy Programs in Olathe and preparing for their high school pathway/Individual Plan of Study (IPS)
